Yippee! she came to me this morning! although she didn't stay long at least she came over. She even called to me, what a great feeling.
Even though we had an awful storm last night she seems fine and settled in. I just keep watching her from my office window, it's great especially as the fence line is only approx 6m away.
Don't know how I'm going to tear myself away from just watching her, will have to though as have to go and collect hubby from the Airport. Especially as he is the one who has paid for her for me and he hasn't even seen her or even a piccy yet!!!!
Hope you all have a good day and the water is subsiding now.
Ritax

She's so beautiful Rita. I do love the "heavies" - I used to ride a percheron cross cob and sitting a canter transition on her felt like the feeling you must get from a Harrier Jump Jet.
I wish you and Lancia a long and happy partnership.

Welshcob, Just to let you know I have had the vet here today and he tells me not to be overly concerned about her extra weight as the grass has not got much goodness left in it wth all the rain we have had and he feels she will just start to lose it naturally whilst she is out in the field(she is out there 24/7 at the moment).
Lucy, I have already posted pictures on the Nouvelle Vie site so hopefully they will see she is ok.
JL aka Carerra14, You can't have mine it took me two goes to get it right! anyway you are still young enough to find one, just be very picky!
Just to let everyone know I feel so honoured to own Lancia as she is such a sweatheart! As some of you know I had to have my darling boy(9yr old GSD) put to sleep last week and I have been devastated but she has brought a smile to my face! In fact she is sooooo funny she even rolled over and over today and had her legs in the air for ages(my GSD used to do this and in fact slept like that most of the time!)
Hubby and I have spent most of the day outside in and around her field today(sorry to inform you guys however the weather has been glorious today in fact I have got burnt!) She has been coming upto us and having a love and in fact she even let me put a head collar on her so the vet could give her all her innoculations and worming, he thinks she is fantastic(and this from a frenchman!) Although she has no idea what treats are she doesn't even know what carrots are about which I think is soooo sad however as we have every intention of spoiling her I am sure she will learn. I hope all of you that are rescuing these wonderful horses from dept41 will get on ok just remember we don't know what they have been through. I don't care if I am unable to ride her in the future, although I would love it if I could she will remain part of our family and will be treated with respect and love.
Good luck everyone and lets hope we can ensure everyone knows about the way these animals are treated and put a stop to it!
Love to all Rita

Hiya Jinks,
Yep! she sure is a big girly however as I have mentioned previously she fits in with my family really well hee hee!!!!!! She really is a sweetie she is just still very nervy not surprising as she is still only a baby really (8yrs old) and it looks like she has never been hand fed or even had any treats of any kind. She really doesn't know what to make of carrots whether they are in your hand or a bucket or on the ground!
This is one of the things about rescuing a horse that you don't know the background to! It's a bit like going to the Canine Defence League and rescuing a dog that there is no history to, it is a bit of a gamble and you need to have loads and loads of patience. However as I have rescued dogs in the past and know the patience is just soooo rewarding!

Well my baby is doing really well so far. The wormer the vet gave her on Wednesday is definately working, bless her!She has even lost that bloated look thank goodness. Am clearing up loads of the flippin things in her manure. To other owners that have rescued these French horses please ensure that you worm them a.s.a.p as it really does appear necessary.
She will call me every time I go out and comes over when I call her, it is such a fantastic feeling knowing she is safe and showing more and more love everyday. She let me groom her today although her mane and tail are in a dreadful state and will take some time to sort out, her mane looks like she has got dreadlocks they are soooooo greasy and matted!!!!!
She is funny though as now she will take food out of a bucket whilst I hold it she still has no concept of treats! I put some carrots in with her food this evening however she ate all around the carrots even sifting them out and the ones she did put into her mouth she spat them out on the floor. This is just so amazing because Morse (my GSD I lost last week) used to do exactly the same thing if you put carrots in his food, even in a roast dinner he would move them around the dish and lick all the gravy off but the carrots were still there at the end. How on earth can a horse be exactly the same!!!!! She makes me smile and feel loved and I am sure we will get more of a rapport as time goes on, she is truly a remarkable animal and I hope she will be able to forget the bad times and have plenty of good times to look forward to. Good luck to all that have rescued a horse be it from France or anywhere else.
