Can we use this thread to throw ideas around as to how to campaign about the lack of true sentences handed down to the people who carry out these horrific crimes ? If we do not send out a clear message and find something by way of a deterent, then we will still be reading these tragic threads forever. Would anyone be prepared to send letters to there local pm and to someone within their own area who could help ? Celebs etc .
I can write to our local pm in Sussex: Tim Loughton and maybe Carla Lane or Paul Mc Cartney who are local too us.
Can someone put together a letter which perhaps could include something from Davina ? I guess a letter written on the same lines which we could all use, might keep the detailing of our campaign together ?
Does anyone know the owner of the latest victim that we might be able to bring in on this ??
Lets try to start somewhere. If we can get it going, maybe it could be put around the other sites for help ?

Thanks hun. I cannot imagine what you all went through in the past year.
I simply cannot sit by and watch this happen without trying to do something. We read such horrific crimes and the ridiculous punishments given out. We, the IHDG, and forums all over the net, have the power to make a difference and now is the time to make ourselves heard. I don't have all the answers, but surely if we put our heads together in a united, well thought out campaign, we could change things.

I always think that anyone who would be cruel to any animal may well do the same things to a human being, maybe a child.
I get fed up with the leniant sentences handed out in animal cruelty cases. I for one would rather see someone locked up for a very long time before thay had a chance to try their cruelty out on anything else, or a human.

One of ours (Dinky) was slashed with a craft knife 8 years ago at a previous location, it took the Police 24 hours to turn up that time. I dont have the answers either but Circusdancer most definately puts into words what most of us are thinking with regard to conclusion of Maggie's case. I will most certainly write to Bill Wiggin MP and ask what amendments can be brought into place within the 2006 welfare act to give a straight forward and clear message to those who might find maiming and killing of an animal a 'pleasure' The clearest deterant of all ought to be bring back chain gangs, so these scum can be seen by all and treated with the utter distain they deserve. Not put into safe cells and given play stations etc to keep them happy, Prison should not be a pleasurable existance- ever! If it isn't a place of total depravation from normal life, no visiting rights, no treats, no comfort, then it isn't a punishment, how can it act as a deterant to anyone, least of all this kind of scum. the whole legal system is tied up with humanities and 'rights' that it's got prisons more like a nursery schools than places of correction. I'm sorry to sound off like this but I come from a generation where respect and right and wrong were taught from day one of childhood and woe betide you if you didn't comply...it's stood me in good stead... emw.

You are right Jenny. I saw a programme where the adults who committed murder and torture, had started by torturing animals in childhood.

That's great if CircusDancer has some letters we can use. We also need to work out how to centrally collate the information regarding horse attacks, as we hear of them from different sources and there could be some that for whatever reason we don't get to hear about at all.

Completely agree with you Elaine. I think if all of the details of crimes on animals were collated, then the numbers would be truly shocking. The punishment has to reflect the crime whether it be against another human being or animal alike. Thank you for approaching your MP. I will try to sort a list so that we know who is being contacted.
Modified to say - If you can approach someone either in goverment or media / celeb, can you put the name in bold, so that we can see the name ( it won't get lost in amongst what we are chatting about )

Can I be in it?
We are well overdue a reform re: crime and punishment.
An eye for an eye.
I'm not very good at writing letters but I do have my own balaclava

I'm with the balaclavad lady. If the law won't punish these people effectively, community justice will have to prevail.

A peaceful protest perhaps I couldnt organise a p up in a brewery sorry but am very willing to protest or even wear a balaclarva. A petition drawn up and distributed throughout the uk to get as many sigs as poss , to then be delivered to the powers that be. Its so frustrating but nothing will change unless we make it happen.

To be honest I'm siding with Jo A - an eye for an eye! It's fantastic that the BHS have finally sat up and taken notice but it's tragic that it's taken the appalling death of Maggie and the overwhelming public strength of feeling for that to happen. I'm sure the BHS could have milked the case far more effectively if they'd got involved in the first instance, but jumping on the bandwaggon afterwards doesn't wash with me. The RSPCA have been nowhere near Maggie's case either. Sadly some organisations are happy for others to fight the battles they claim all the credit for. Sucks doesn't it? OK I've had my rant! I'm in obviously!

You know what you need to do? Give some pics of one of the horses after they have been attacked to a major paper - like the Sun. That would get some interest. Everyone should write to their PM - using separate letters written themselves (not a template) and DEMANDING a response from them on what is being done to prevent these attacks. These horses are peoples property - simply writing it off as an attack on a "pet" is not acceptable.
