Oh Karen. I wish we could all be there to surround you and let you know we have all been exactly where you are now. When you have more time and are feeling better tell us what happened in detail. Everything can be addressed. Hard as this is to believe, it's all learning. You discovered somethings today, that needed to be found out regarding your horse's behaviour. Don't feel your horse doesn't like you... it's nothing to do with that. My lump is sitting in a starvation paddock tonight... I'm sure he loathes me! Post again and tell all.

Oh Karen! Firstly have a big (((((((((HUG))))))))))
Secondly, take comfort from the fact that we are all here to help you - most of us have been in exactly the same situation as you. Some of us (me included) are still along way off having the confidence to go out for a hack, whereas there are others on here that are coming through the other side of their confidence problems & are starting to enjoying hacking again. So between us there will lots of kind advice for getting over your hacking demons.
Thirdly - of course he likes you! I'd put money on the fact that he bloomin loves you!
Have another ((((hug))))

ok hi people, thank you so much for the support, i'm just such a wossie, the fact of the matter is, that after all the work we have done, he is never going to change, this is a fact that i have deal with, we had been working on the walking, which i had praised him loads for doing, and after the schooling we did and he deffinatly got the hang of it there, thought this would be the same, but........ he was back to the jogging as soon as we got on the road, i sat back did all the peddle-ing etc possitive thinking, deep breathing, infact anything that would take my mind off his jogging, but he just kept getting faster, so ended up trying to stop him by bringing round his head to which he spun round, then we jogged all the way back, he completely ignored me, and was soooo strong, so still crying this morning, can't face riding him again, so now we have these choices, he becomes a garden orniment, i try and get him back into driving, or i sell him, i love him soooo much ...... and the fact that i tried to buy him for 3 yrs before i actually got him has to be a sign of this, but i just don't think i am right for him, i don't want to do things at 100 miles an hour, on the other hand if he calmed down i don't have any trouble jumping him, xc, showjumping (local shows) etc as he is a really good alrounder, but i just can't deal with all this fast stuff on the roads sorry peeps i know you all have problems, and really don't need mine too, thanks for caring karen and co

Hiya Karen,
Saw you on here and hope that you and T are okay today? I really feel for you and really wish I was there to help you and T out. The only thing I can say is that when you felt him jogging I would have got off and sorted out this issue on the ground.
The jogging around can eb because of lots of things but probably due to unconfidence. He could be unconfident about where he was or in you at that point or any number of things and to be able to be strong enough to get off and do some ground work will help him enormously.
This can be sorted, he's just giving you feedback and you need to question why he's jogging and once that is sorted you'll be fine. It's not about the road, or the ride it's about his state of mind and his relationship with you.
Unconfidence is a HUGE thing and if you can help him become braver and respect eachothers thresholds then you'll win him over completely.

hi Savvyhorse, and welcome to the board ;D
hmmm Todi is a very complecated horse to say the least, 4 years ago when i met him i rode him out for a *friend* and we went on many hacks for miles, things then became very complicated and todi started to become aggressive, also in this time lots of people used to ride him and usually at full pace, he found this great fun, and tried to kill a few of them by running towards the stable block (which had very low roof) so they were nearly beheaded, anyway cutting a long story short, now he seems to have lost walk as part of his natural gait, he joggs everywhere, and when i used to hack out with others i was always the anti - social one 200 yards in front, because he is a ride and drive and has been allowed to trot in full pace, (which is as fast as most horses canter) and feels like a section A on speed, i now can't seem to brake him of this, he is frightened of nothing.......... and then on the other hand he is frightened of everything, just depends what side of bed he gets out of that particular day, he is as bombproff as they come, farm machinery, cars, buses, airoplanes, helicopters, plastic bags,
and i think either for someone else who wants to do things fast, he would be totally great, or getting him back driving, (which he hasn't been out of that long) doing all the marathons at break neck speed ............ thats him, unfortunutly it's not me, his ground manners are now second to none, he loads like a dream, will follow me anywhere i don't have to ask, so if i do sell him someone will have a very willing and able horse, albeit very fast,
i'm so in love with this horse, it is just so deverstating (sp???) when it doesn't go right,
hope this helps a little for others to help me find what is going on with him, as it seems it is beyond me,
and thanks for your reply
