;D Another one here who has lost confidence and i havent really ridden for ages and ages, today my friend came over and we tacked molly up for a little bit of schooling in the paddock. for the first time ever we couldnt catch her she has had low grade lamintis for a while and i had a smile from ear to ear watching her bucking and cantering round the field. Anyway after some bribery we caught her and tacked her up, i said to my friend that i was very glad she was going to ride her first and not me! LOL! she got on and molly was brilliant, she walked trotted and cantered with no problems at all. Not having been worked for a long while we kept it very short and then it was my turn so i said for Debs to put the lead rein on and walk me round first and then i would go on my own. We decided it was a good idea for me to sing twinkle twinkle little star to get my breathing right, as soon as i started so did Molly only hers was coming from the other end! ;D ;D ;D ;D then the little so and so started playing up, i think it was because she thought that when Debs got off that was it and then i got on and she was having a tantrum. Great! NOT! did manage to calm her down and i did a couple of circuits round the paddock in walk, i was a bit upset that i didnt come off lead rein but i suppose it is a start Im quite chuffed to even have got on so next time (yes, i am thinking of a next time) i will maybe have a go on my own and see what happens. eileen xx

Aaah thanks Wozzer, i have made a promise that this year i will definately get over my fear one way or the other, my biggest problem is if she plays up i just freeze and forget everything i have been taught and i then i get cross with myself because i know deep down that i can handle it if only i would stop panicking! eileen xx

Oh well done you. Give yourself a huge pat on the back. You've now got over that first hurdle of actually getting back on. Yes, you're likely to feel anxious next time as well, but you've done the hardest part now. Just take tiny little steps at a time and keep in mind the massive achievement you have just made.
Keep us posted. xxx

That's great. Try to keep it up even if it is only 5mins at a time. Saying that I one to talk. I've galloped other horses but haven't loped either of mine!

Awww thanks so much everyone, i will keep it up, my friend was saying today, molly is in a small fenced off area, she cant go anywhere and she doesnt ever rear and might do some small bucks but really it is reasonably safe so i know i shouldnt be negative as not a lot can happen really, now im thinking i have probably started to tempt providence and one of the above will happen! LOL! You are all an inspiration cheers eileen xx

Wahay Eileen - a huge well done!!! You can do it girl - I wish I was nearer then I could come and help you!
Nikki W has re-started Ketchup after a long break so I am helping her - she is still on the lead rein after 2 rides and K is behaving brilliantly! So if you want help ask for it and don't worry about it though.

Yah well done Eileen. I am so chuffed that you did it and it really doesn;t matter whether Debs is holding a lead rein does it ? If it encourages Molly to be better behaved each time, then keep doing it like that. I know that they pick up on our nerves, but i hopefully if you do it regular enough, you will become more and more relaxed. After all - whats the worst that can happen ? The ground isn't too hard at this time of year ;D We expect photos too by the way ! xx

Eileen that is FANTASTIC! Well done to you and Molly. At the end of the day, if you just get on, walk three steps and get off again that is an achievement - and there was you walking around the school several times with a foot soldier. How brilliant is that.
Enjoy your next ride, and don't forget to breathe, it really works. (Sorry for those who have seen me post this before but I am a bit fanatical about it)! If you breath in through your nose to say the count of 4, exhale using the same counting rhythmn through your mouth to the count of at least 6 and preferably 8. You feel your horse relax underneath you, kind of a "oh if mum isn't scared I don't need to be either". And with my two, if I do an exaggerated sigh nine times out of ten they do as well! Quite funny
Have a lovely ride today Eileen xx

Well done eilieen! never mind about the lead rein - I was lead round by a 10yr old girl last year! Do whatever it takes! Sez me! Now I'm looking for the 10yr old again! It's great that you are looking forward to the next time too You have also hit the nail on the head when you said you freeze and forget everything you've learned... same as giftgirl and ME... I was whining to my instructor last week (poor lady) and she said people lack confidence when they think they cannot deal with things their horses throw at them - when you get to know that "well if he was playing up and did this... or that... I could actually cope with that...I would know how to deal with it..." your confidence will start to grow... and you did just that eileen when she was having a tantrum - you dealt with it ;D
