I have what I would call reasonable confidence,as in dont mind riding after time off and Im happy to break in and back our youngsters.I dont mind taking them for their 1st solo ride and generaly bringing them on,but, with this,I totaly empathise. I have a 15.3 anglo arab who like your boy,is great in school(almost lazy)and great-99.9% in traffic. But like your boy can buck and bronc in a open field canter and as I dont want to meet with the floor,I just dont do it. I will be taking some of the advice above,my boy likes to do a walk-canter in fields, none of this trotting lark, however I suppose he should just learn.I always used to do the open field thing with him and he was fine, but now-if your anything like me op,its the antisipation of it and knowing what they are capable of that dosnt help. Sorry for 'hijacking your thread!,but thanks for posting it as this applies to me too This is a pic of sim doing a bronc in the field,he launches himself straight up and this pic may not look like much but 1,hes coming down-hence his mane and 2,on landing the mega bucks start.... He rarely does it in saddle but theres always the what if.. Well done on your ride, very brave huni and the riding sounds great
