This is my Reg Welsh Sec B yearling - Frankie. I am thinking of trying a couple of local shows with him - he is an absolute star and very very good to handle but I have NO idea about showing. Firstly - he would go in an M& M class - correct? Is he good enough? Secondly he would go untrimmed, unpulled etc - correct? Thirdly - would I have to wear the tweed jacket etc? Fourth - could he be showing in a white rope halter? He was gelded 4 months ago... Any opinions would be marvellous please. I've never done it before and it makes me very nervous LOL

wow what a little stunner ;D I believe Sec B's are classed as M&M small breeds (may be wrong ) so he would need to go in the correct class unless it is an open class (large and small breeds) he certainly looks very well put together and a very handsome chap but I'm afraid some judges have their preferences so you'll never know till you get there! M&M horses are supposed to be shown as natural as possible so yes - free flowing mane, don't touch his feathers or whiskers etc., you could use a white halter but i think its best to use a colour close to his face colour because otherwise the halter stands out and distracts attention from his looks so the subtler the better! in the ring, everyone will walk round together and the judge/steward will call you in one by one. this is the judge's first ideas of placings. when walking round - keep watching the judge so you dont miss them if you get called in. once everyone is lined up, you will go upto the judge individually. practice getting him standing square and standing still. the judge will look him over and have a little chat about him. then you will need to walk away from the judge in a straight line (leading from the left) get him doing an active walk. when you reach the end of the ring, turn back towards the judge (turn to the right so you are on the outside) and then trot back in a straight line. trot straight at the judge - he/she will move out the way but they like to stand in front of you so they can see if your horse is straight etc., keep trotting past the judge then round the back of the line of horses and back to your place then you'll all go back out into a circle again and you will be called in for the final placing line up its good fun! but practice at home. most of all enjoy it ;D toni xx

Yes M&M Small Breeds or in Welsh B Classes
Welsh B's are the most pulled of the M&M Breeds. manes Natural by not long.
Tweed Jackets are the norm for Welsh B's
NOOOOO white halter, nice leather In hand bridle or Halter.

Smudge, (and A H too! ) please note you do not stand a pony square in the ring--- You stand it like this, so the judge can see all 4 feet, when the judge goes to the other side, you move him again to stand that way for her on that side. Get practicing. ;D

Nooo, standing them square sets their shape out all wrong, the judges like to see a slightly elongated stance to enable them to see both in and out of legs etc, stood up square, the majority of horses will lose topline and bum shape.......

He is very very nice but, he is up on the back end. I only show mine when they are level, the worst time to show a youngster is from yearling to two year old, SS3 will tell you this, first they are up at the front then the back, but having said that I do like him a lot. Save him, they are only young once, there is no hurry, don't rush him, his time will come. I will look forward to judgeing him if you ever come under me.
