You cannot compete at affiliated Dressage competitions - even HC - with a disallowed bit.

Well, we are nowhere near good enough going to an affiliated dressage competition , so at the local ones HC in a bitless bridle/illegal bit is just fine.

The local ones generally run to BD rules - so again, you cannot compete even HC in a disallowed bit.
Bits are diallowed for a reason - generally the disallowed bits re designed to stop the horse taking a contact with the bit. Dressage is all about comfortable communication through the horse taking an acceptable contact with a bit....
