As the title says really, I live just outside Horsham and am fed up with the bitching and backstabbing on our yard, plus they are anti-barefoot which my lad is (and is not having the smoothest transition). Really looking for an assisted (ie turn out and bring in if I can't do it) DIY livery yard with decent riding and a school.
Does anyone have any recommendations, feel like I can't enjoy my horse any more on the current yard.

Oh Roz, I wish I could have you and Solsti at my yard - we are all (or nearly all) barefoot, and IH and all. But it's a bit too far for you, I guess, and we are full at the moment but I could always see what we can do (Trevor knows my yard, anyway).
You could try to PM MrsH, she lives in Dorking and knows yards around there. Good luck, it's awful to be on a yard where you are not happy!

oh Mariaana why can't you move your yard nearer to me? i would do anything to be able to keep them at an IH yard - but then if you don't have room for 1 i don't suppose you'd have room for 2 or maybe 3 (if shants comes back from loan)? OP - THere are a few DIY yards around Gatwick but none that i'd recommend particularly highly i'm afraid - but i'll have a think and will let you know if i come up with anything

Cara you've got a good memory, yes I did move horse, house, job the works to move in with my boyfriend and to 'run' the on site DIY assisted Livery. Turned out 'run' meant be a dogsbody and the money I was supposed to be earning from it looking after the liveries horses took about 70% of my day and earnt me about £11 a week. The YO turned out to be absolutely horrible and very very manipulative and bitchy. So I changed things and sadly went back to an office job, but at least then I could afford to keep my horse and pay the mortgage on my house back home in North Somerset! Anyway to cut a long story short, the liveries were told an incorrect version of why I decided to quit and it all turned very bitchy against me. We're five months down the line and some of them still haven't 'forgiven' me, honestly it's like dealing with 5 year olds, except they are more mature!!! (the 5 year olds that is).
Showhorses, I'm afraid Essex is too far, we're on the Surrey/West Sussex border.
Hi Mariaana, I wish I could bring Solsti to your yard, it sounds ideal!!! But I think you are based near Weybridge aren't you, if so, sadly it is too far. Hope you and your clan are all well.
I will definitely PM Mrs H though, I know Dorking well as was born and brought up there and my Dad still lives there, even remember having lessons at Dorking Riding School many years ago, based near Ranmore.
Hi Amelia, why does there seem to be such a dearth of decent yards in this area, maybe because land is so expensive and in short supply. Your friend Aubenalia pm'd me with some suggestions which was really kind of her, but again I don't think they are quite right as they are big yards and sadly Solsti never really settles on big yards, and I usually find that the more concentration of horsey girls in one area, the bigger the bitching!

Roz, my yard is in Ripley, near Guildford. I am sure Mrs H knows quite a few yards as she does some freelance grooming so she has seen a few. amelia, we are full and I have a waiting list of about 10 horses - but when a place becomes available, we always have to see whether the horse / person is suitable. Barefoot horses take priority but it is not a requirement. Often, by the time I get a place, the people on the waiting list have already been sorted. I will put you on the list if you want!

I'd love that but it is just a bit too far from me unless i could find work over your way then it wouldn't be so bad. Your yard sounds absolutely perfect. My neds are kept barefoot (I have them done by an EP) and they are fed on an SS diet. I really want to work towards my MRPC (have done 3 out of the 4 preliminary courses) and i think that i need to be on a yard where everyone is of the same thinking (particularly the YO). I really like the yard i'm on but it disheartens me so much when people take their frustrations out on their horses, i even start thinking that this is perhaps 'normal' then i come on here and it restores my faith in what i believe and what i strive to achieve :-)

Hi Roz, sorry things haven't worked out for you. Have you tried Bridge House Livery Yard near Horsham? Not IH and like all yards there are problems but the riding school has a good reputation and livery is anything from DIY to full as you need it. PM me if you would like more details.

Roz
I was at a great yard in Pease Pottage, on Tilgate Forset for a while. Small yard ( private house, 9 horses) Hacking is great as it's straight onto the forest, no road work, although you have to get a TROT permit to go on there. About £60 a year if I recall. Not sure if she has any vacancies but I can ask her if you like.
