Can anyone advise me on how to wash my duck down coat? it is a copy of the expensive horsey one (can't remember which make it is) but it is identical. I vaguley remember that it has to be tumble dried with tennis balls??!! Am i going mad!!
;D No, you're not going mad! I would follow any instructions for washing it, then tumble dry on a low heat, with the aforementioned tennis balls!! I have it on good authority that the tennis balls add air to the feather and down, so giving your jacket it's big fluffy padded effect! Don't tumble dry it too long, do it in 10 min sessions, to be safe! m
Hiya no you're not going mad and yes they do need to be tumble dreid using three Tennis balls to bring the down back into shape again. I have the Toggi down filled jackets and this is how you are supposed to wash and dry them, beware they are really heavy when wet though! Mine also smells like a big wet Dog when wet too, stinks the house out! They do come up lovely when you wash them though, you also don't get the same effect if you just leave them to dry naturally, the down will be all squished and take ages to come back up.
An old, clean trainer will do as well as tennis balls, it's just something to bounce about and stop the feathers all sticking together in a solid mass so the heat can get them properly dry else your jackey will stink like the aforementioned wet dog forever - I know I've doen it ;D

I've got a Toggi feather down jacket and I havn't got a tumble dry but do have a lovely warm airing cupboard. I wash and lay over the struts in the cupboard and shake it every couple of hours. My bounces back up and doesn't smell like a wet dog.
Well I wish I'd known about the tennis balls several washes earlier That would have saved me the heart stopping moments until it fluffed itself up again after a while. I thought I'd ruined it. Going to nick some balls off the grandchild
