Usually best to combine glucosamine with MSM or chondriatin. Global herbs (www.globalherbs.co.uk) do a range. Also look at www.holistichorsehealth.com Have no experience of any of these products in horses, but certainly in humans, the purer (and more expensive) the product the better. many cheaper products contain alot of filler.

I have been giving my welsh sec C glucosamine for two months and have defo seen an improvement in her stiffness seemingly in her hocks. She was doing quite alot of lungeing which I think was making her stiff so I stopped the lungeing and popped her on glucosamine and she has been much less stiff since. I have used Equine America and the Topsepc 10:10 and have seen an improvement with both.
Apparently apple cider vinegar is also supposed to be good for joints... anyone have any opinions on this?

Clare used Cortaflex and Bioflow boots and rug on Saintly after a very nasty fetlock injury a while back. Very impressed with results, but would be as I am a distributor. If you need anymore info on the Bioflow, just PM me. Whatever you use or whichever way you go I wish you both a pain free future.

Am still dithering on the Zipvits site - thanks v much for dosage info. May get the Glucosamine HCL, MSM & Chondroitin separately & mix them, but that may be too much hassle. I will use their advisory service, and tell all when the order is in.

I've just been checking my various horse supplement tubs and most of them seem to suggest that Glucosamine at 5000mg (5g) per day is the right dose, so any of the human supplements would have be fed in massive doses. I think I'm going to stick to the horsey ones for them & go to zipvit for us & dogs..........

I have used Newmarket Joint supplement (pure glucosamine) for 8yrs on my mare as a preventative. Believe theres something in it as she is still sound and fit at 19. And thats after 71/2 seasons of weekly hunting! have changed that now and looking a good decision so far. To Equine Answers Premierflex plus. www.equineanswers.co.uk/prodpage.asp?ProdID=16Feel she needs an added something and not just pure glucosamine at her age. Again fed as a preventative and feel its worth it looking back at out history!

I'm using devil's claw and cortaflex on my arthritic mare and I'm beginning to think that it's the devil's claw that's actually helped her. It's hard to be sure, because I'm using both, but I know that without either she's quite likely to get stiff - especially after any episodes of major silliness and sliding stops that she likes to do in the field. But the devils claw is anti-inflammatory, a bute substitute, so it wouldn't surprise me if this is what gives her direct relief from pain. I just thought she should have a joint supplement as well, to try to mend/retain her cartilege. Mind you with talk of fusion in the hocks as a kind of cure, not sure if this is just wasted money, prolonging the life of joints that need to fuse to remove the pain of friction. Slightly alarmed that there could be long-term side-effects from cortaflex...
Will look into this riaflex, and also will ask the vet about cheaper vet-approved supplements, if mine supplies them.

Another convert to Riaflex Complete as well - and my mare who is 18 and was quite a plod has started beating the other welsh cob across the field at night and bucks for england - still not ridden as her feet are still not good enough for shoes - my old farrier is back on board now so will def get some good advice when he visits in January.

Just a warning about Glucosamine. One of our geldings developed laminitis for the first time about 3 weeks after being put on Cortavet which includes glucosamine.Obviously I'm not sure if it WAS the Cortavet or not but I decided to take him off it anyway to be on the safe side.
Anyone else had a similar experience?
