Ok so for those of us who have been passed out on the living room floor since looking at the price list for the fhoenixs saddles. Which other treeless saddles which you recommend, why, how much do they cost etc.
Just interested.

I currently own a Fitform and a Freeform. I used to have a Diddi Pad as well but sold it because it didn't suit Dolly's conformation. Pros and Cons of each: Fitform Pros: Really soft and comfortable saddle, high cantle and pommel so very secure. Fitform Cons: Floppy so doesn't provide much in the way of rider support, hard to get a decent jumping position in it. Freeform Pros: More rigid than the Fitform so very supportive, looks pretty conventional. Freeform Cons: Even the Short Base is too long for ponies under about 13.2hh (however a new model is coming out soon for littlies). Diddi Pros: Beautiful saddle, looks very conventional. Diddi Cons: Definitely designed for Icelandics - didn't suit Dolly's shape at all but is great for the Icelandic horses whose owners I sold it to. Price wise, you can get a treeless for between £300 and £2000 and each has its own set of pros and cons. My website lists all the treelesses currently available: www.freewebs.com/alternativehorse

my sister bought a solution freestyle saddle for Seamus.... why? er.....because his tree'd saddle rolled something rotten, and couldn't find a tree'd saddle to fit him... I did try a barefoot cheyenne on him, but that slipped too and made him feel wider than he already was...(my sister and I both have hip probs). She trialled a solution, and it showed there was a big difference in his behaviour after only 30mins... so she got him one...it cost i think around the £1600 mark, but is really comfy, it fits him beautifully, it's comfy for us, and now that he's lost some weight, it still fits him!! photo of it

Bob Marshall for me! It cost $2100 tho so involves passing out on the floor and isn't much use if you're not into Western, but it does look very nice

Jen, it's a Skito pad. They make them to fit all sorts of saddles, and I think they do a custom one too. www.sportssaddles.com sells them--they're not horrifically expensive even with the shipping from the US! That was JJ in his summer coat after nine months off work--he didn't look too bad, really! He's gone white again now though. We gave up on the bit after that though--he hated the snaffle and just stalked off wherever he wanted so we went back to the dually and the bosal instead

Riding? What's that, then? Actually I do have a couple somewhere, but I never posted them because for some reason I look so haggard and ill I look like I'm about to drop dead off the horse (no idea why, I felt perfectly OK!) I shall look them out ;D
