QHs are nearly always backed at 2, even in the UK. I'd hope the workload was kept fairly light--they are tremendously strong little chaps but if they're anything like mine it's possible to take advantage of their good nature I do wish people had the patience to wait that extra year or so. Nice little horse though. Wish I had a spare 4k!

Echo what Finn said: Quarter Horses are backed normally at 2. As for price, generally they are quite expensive.

A woman on my yard is backing her 23 month old ShireX at present, 'because he is big enough'. I am trying to hold my tongue as much as possible....

it might be "the done thing" to back them that young but its just asking for problems later.
When our shire x (dutch in our case) was 23months she was still VERY immature, in fact someone mistook her for a TB! I wouldnt have dreamed of backing her so young.

I don't know--I didn't get him til he was 8! He was broken English at first though so I'd hope it was at 3 or 4. But I don't know.

A girl up in Yorkshire who bought him from his breeder. He'd been in training with Shane Borland when she got him I think. Why?
