No wander he wags his tail!
When God made the earth and sky The flowers and the trees, He then made all the animals And all the birds and bees. And when his work was finished Not one was quite the same. He said "Ill walk this earth of mine And give each one a name". And so He traveled Land and sea And everywhere he went A little creature followed Him Until it's strength was spent. When all were named upon the earth And in the sky and sea The little creature said "Dear Lord, There's not one left for me" The father smiled and softly said "Ive left you to the end, I've turned my own name back to front And called you "Dog", my friend"

for anyone who has lost a doggy friend:
"He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds. He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea. He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason for being; by the way he rests against my leg; by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile; by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me.) When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, he is joy unbounded. When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful. He is loyalty itself. He has taught me the meaning of devotion. With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant. His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things. He has promised to wait for me... whenever... wherever - in case I need him. And I expect I will - as I always have. He is just my dog." - Gene Hill

((Puts hands over eyes)) this thread is soooo sad Especially when a pet is recently departed I loved you from the moment I first saw you, I'd never seen such piercing eyes of blue. Your purr of contentment as I held you tight, Your love was given to all in sight. You gave your everything, you gave us your best, God decided you were a touch above the rest. One February afternoon, he reached down his hand, And plucked you from this unforgiving land He took you early, never gave you a chance to stay, They say He only takes the best ones away. So I guess I was lucky for the time I had you, I'll try to hold onto my memories for you. You'll never be replaced in my heart, When God took you, my heart fell apart. Chief Josephs Firecloud
My snowdrift boy, born this Spring
The happiness, I thought you’d bring
I dreamed I’d see you prancing proud
Next to your Mum, the snowdrift Cloud.
But fate decided you must go
My perfect boy, wrapped up in snow
Fate brought on by another’s deed
That caused to make my sad heart bleed
Rest in peace my snowdrift boy
I never got to know your joy
But saw your eyes shut tight at rest
And knew Chief Joseph took the best.
Snowcap colt foal born 21st April 2007 and died hours later due to circumstances not related to his health or the mare.

I STOOD BY YOUR BED
I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep. I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep. I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea, you were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, your arms were getting sore. I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today, you tend it with such care. I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key. I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me."
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair. I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me to be so near you every day. To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew ... in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning and say "goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me.

I cried my eyes out when I read these poems before - before I lost Maisie. Now re-reading them it's different, I have already cried so much there are not too many tears left, but also they are comforting now rather than just distressing. Hope others feel the same benefit too.

Thought for the day--sorry dont know who wrote it
A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as He got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side. When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?" "This is Heaven, sir," the man answered. "Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked. "Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up." The man gestured, and the gate began to open. "Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked. "I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets." The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog. After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book. "Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in." "How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog. "There should be a bowl by the pump." They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree. "What do you call this place?" the traveler asked. "This is Heaven," he answered. "Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too." "Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell." "Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?" "No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."

I'm looking for the poem hoof prints in the sand, can anyone help thanks Taff Only heard the footsteps in the sand poem, but I'll have a scout for you MTA (I found the poem for you) Ever since I can remember I have wanted to be free, To roam the gorge and mountain tops with no-one chasing me, I've longed to travel to a place that nature holds to heart, and live a life of freedom that no-one can tear apart. To run along the beaches and leave hoofprints in the sand, and feel the watersplashing, oh now wouldn't that be grand, To munch the fresh new pasture as it breaks through natures soil, Or even have my ears scratched by a friend forever loyal. But time is running out and I feel darkness has awoke, To cover all the hope and all the dreams of which I've spoke, I feel him walk toward me with that needle in his hand, I close my eyes forever, leaving hoofprints in the sand.
