When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Goodbye Friend
Don't cry for me now that I am gone Remember our days filled with blue skies & sun Travel the forests we rode in the dusk Swim through the many a river we crossed
Don't cry for me now that I've left you behind Go through the photos you've gathered with time Read all the stories you wrote of my life Think of the times you stayed with me at night
Don't cry for me now when you are there all alone Think back on the memories of the fun times we had The stories you made up and the adventures we tried Of princesses & knights, gallently riding
Don't cry for me now you did the right thing I love you more than ever for what you did for me To have the heart to let me pass on And not live in pain when my time had come
Don't cry for me now - in time we will be together Others need you more than I do now And when we meet once again we will race through the sky Never to be parted for one moment in time
Don't cry for me now that you miss my soft nicker I will never forget your compassion in my time of need I thank you with all my heart & will not forget Enjoy your life....soon we will be together again Don't cry for me now that I have crossed over The Rainbow Bridge leads to happiness & glory Our stories come true there & pain does not exist And when you cross over I will be waiting ********************************************

THE RESCUE RAINBOW BRIDGE
Unlike most days at Rainbow Bridge, this day dawned cold and gray, damp as a swamp and as dismal as could be imagined. All of the recent arrivals had no idea what to think, as they had never experienced a day like this before. But the animals that had been waiting for their beloved people knew exactly what was going on and started to gather at the pathway leading to The Bridge to watch.
It wasn't long before an elderly cat came into view, head hung low and tail dragging. The other animals, the ones who had been there for a while, knew what his story was right away, for they had seen this happen far too often. He approached slowly, obviously in great emotional pain, but with no sign of injury or illness. Unlike all of the other animals waiting at The Bridge, this animal had not been restored to youth and made healthy and vigorous again. As he walked toward The Bridge, he watched all of the other animals watching him.
He knew he was out of place here and the sooner he could cross over, the happier he would be. But, alas, as he approached The Bridge, his way was barred by the appearance of an Angel who apologized, but told him that he would not be able to pass.
Only those who were with their people could pass over Rainbow Bridge.
With no place else to turn to, the elderly cat turned towards the fields before The Bridge and saw a group of other cats like him, also elderly and infirm. They weren't playing, but rather simply lying on the green grass, forlornly staring out at the pathway leading to The Bridge. And so, he took his place among them, watching the pathway and waiting.
One of the newest arrivals at The Bridge didn't understand what he had just witnessed and asked one of the animals that had been there for a while to explain it to him. You see, that poor animal was a rescue. He was turned in to rescue just as you see him now, an older cat with his fur graying and his eyes clouding. He never made it out of rescue and passed on with only the love of his rescuer to comfort him as he left his earthly existence. Because he had no family to give his love to, he has no one to escort him across The Bridge.
The first cat thought about this for a minute and then asked, "So what will happen now?"
As he was about to receive his answer, the clouds suddenly parted and the gloom lifted. Approaching The Bridge could be seen a single person and among the older animals, a whole group was suddenly bathed in a golden light and they were all young and healthy again, just as they were in the prime of life.
"Watch, and see" said the second feline. A second group of animals from those waiting came to the pathway and bowed low as the person neared. At each bowed head, the person offered a pat on the head or! a scratch behind the ears. The newly restored animals fell into line and followed him towards The Bridge. They all crossed The Bridge together.
"What happened?"
"That was a rescuer." The animals you saw bowing in respect were those who found new homes because of his work. They will cross when their new families arrive. Those you saw restored were those who never found homes. When a rescuer arrives, they are allowed to perform one, final act of rescue. They are allowed to escort all those poor animals that they couldn't place on earth, across The Rainbow Bridge.
"I think I like rescuers," said the first animal.
"So does God," was the reply.

Oh my goodness, that was just the saddest poem about the rescue cats! Hope they are all helped across the bridge soon, at least I know my dear dog won't have to wait as we rescued him on this side.

Poem for Niko (8/9/2003 - 20/01/2005)
I think of you my Special Boy and the happy times we had I miss you so, its hard to bear, my heart is sore and sad I look for you but you’re not there ,my tears they flow again No gentle eyes to soothe me, no comfort in the dark My soulmate and my bodyguard, you’re gone, I want you back
Oh why did God take you away, when I need you by my side To end your life when just a babe, why this did He decide To take you from this place called home, and all who loved you dear It made no sense it seemed so cruel, I wish He’d left you here
So now you’re at the Rainbow Bridge, once more you run and play I close my eyes and in my mind I see us meet one day When over hills you’ll run to me and fill me with such joy I’ll hug you close and say to you I love you Special Boy
Until that time I’ll be content, to know you’re free from pain And if I had to make that choice, I’d do the same again It was the only thing to do, although it broke my heart But I had to do it for your sake, Id loved you from the start So I held you close and stroked your head as you gently slipped away Peaceful in your knowledge, that I loved you on that day.
RIP Niko xxx

This poem is very tear-jerking, but hopefully will help some people out there who have had to make such a painful decision.
If I should grow weak And pain keep me from my sleep Then you must do what must be done For this last battle can not be won
You will be sad I understand Don’t let your grief than stay your hand For this day more than all the rest Your love for me must stand the test
We’ve had so many happy years What is to come can hold no fears You’d not want me to suffer so The time has come to let me go Take me where my needs they’ll tend And please stay with me till the end Hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see
I know in time that you will see the kindness that you did for me Although my tail it’s last had swished From pain and suffering I’ve been saved
Please do not grieve it must be you Who has this painful thing to do We’ve been so close we two these years Don’t let your heart hold back the tears

My Horse's Wish
Could you bed me down with kindness, On the soft sweet words of love... Could you ride me in Man's finest, With hands as light as a dove...
Could you teach me with old wisdom, By the laws of just and fair... Could you be my Friend forever, With a trust so true and rare...
Could you meet me on the morrow, With grasses green and sweet... Could you free me with out sorrow, On the plains of loam and wheat...
Could you say farewell with honor, On the day my life is through... And remember me Forever, As I shall remember You.

For Gran Amante, my super star and love of my life:- May I go now? Do you think the time is right? May I say good-bye to pain filled days and endless lonely nights? I've lived my life and done my best, an example tried to be. So can I take that step beyond and set my spirit free? I didn't want to go at first, I fought with all my might. But something seems to draw me now to a warm and loving light. I want to go. I really do. It's difficult to stay. But I will try as best I can to live just one more day, to give you time to care for me and share your love and fears. I know you're sad and so afraid, because I see your tears. I'll not be far, I promise that, and hope you'll always know that my spirit will be close to you, wherever you may go. Thank you so much for loving me. You know I love you too. That's why it's hard to say good-bye and end this life with you. So hold me now, just one more time and let me hear you say, because you care so much for me, you'll let me go today.

What dignity is this?
What dignity is this, To be borne into this life, To try to be loving yet willing, Avoiding trouble and strife.
What dignity is this, To be tortured in this way, To feels the claws of hunger, Not forever I hope, I pray.
What dignity is this, To be a possession to ignore, Never knowing humankind, To be without a flaw.
I am now a heavenly being, In peace, were my final years, I finally had the dignity, Of those who shed the tears.

Horses that life has set free, a million white horses forever to be. Don’t cry for the horses now in God’s hands, as they dance and the prance to a heavenly band. They were ours as a gift but never to keep, as they close their eyes forever to sleep. Their spirits unbound on silver wings they fly, a million white horses against the blue sky. Look up into heaven you’ll see them above, the horses we lost the horses we loved.
Manes and tails flowing they gallop through time, they were never yours they were never mine. Don’t cry for the horses they will be back some day, when our time has come they will show us the way. On silver wings they will lift us to the warmth of the sun, when our life is over and eternity has begun. We will jump the sun and dance over the moon, A ballet of horses and riders on the wings of a heavenly tune. Do you hear that soft nicker close to your ear?
Don’t cry for the horses love the ones that are here. Don’t cry for the horses lift up your sad eyes, can’t you see them as they fly by? A million white horses free from hunger and pain, their spirits set free until we ride again.

"Do not Stand at my grave and weep; I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow; I am the sun that you see glow.
I am the birds in circled flight; I am the moon that shines so bright.
I am the twinkle in the sky at night; I am the rain that falls so light.
I am the gentle autumn breeze; I am the one, who now is free.
Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die.
A beatiful poem to all...

"God's finger touched him and he slept." - Lord Alfred Tennyson -
Memories
They say memories are golden well maybe that is true. We never wanted memories We only wanted you In life we loved you dearly in death we love you still In our hearts you hold a special place no other pet could fill If tears could build a stairway and heartache made the lane we'd walk the path to heaven and bring you back again.
~ author unknown ~
Foal
I'll lend you for a little while a foal of mine god said For you to love and mourn for when he's dead It may be one or thirty years or maybe more than these But will you till I call him back, take care of him for me I've looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true And from the throngs that crowd lifes lanes I have selected you Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labour vain Nor hate me when I come to call and take him back again Will you shelter him with tenderness and love him while you may And for the happiness you've known, forever greatful stay But should the angels call on you much sooner than you'd planned Brave the bitter grief that comes and please try to understand.
~Rachel Holiday~
Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there; I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die.

It's true I loved you from the first, yet had I turned away, I would've quickly lost my thirst, and happier been today. For now your face is graven deep, upon my inward sight, and when I wake and when I sleep, I see you day and night. But since our parting was decreed, through laws I could not break, long my broken heart shall bleed, and how the wounds will ache.
Bounce and Cassie. Miss you always. x
