Does anyone know what it is? Am guessing it won't be a heavyweight by any means but is it do-able as a tower for a smaller/lighter/single trailer? Asking because a friend of mine is selling one in really good nick (R reg) and struggling to get a buyer, so I was wondering if its worth aiming some adverts for it as a potential tow vehicle? I don't think its currently fitted with a tow bar but of course that can be rectified, and also means to date it hasn't had that extra wear and tear on the chassis!

The new Sportage has a towing capacity on a braked trailer of 1600kg. The older ones are rated at 1250kg. A single trailer would weigh around 750 - 800 kg leaving 450 kg for horse and tack. This is right up to the limit and I would steer clear of it as a tow vehicle. You have to remember it's not just the pulling ability it is the stopping power as well, especially downhill. Also there is the weight consideration in a strong crosswind. They are not really up to pulling horses. Ruudi

The IW trailer 505 is 905kg braked trailer. I would not consider this vehicle for towing.

Next door neighbour has one - she has just bought a caravan to tow it with !! Discussion with OH was that it could probably tow an empty trailer but not one with a horse in it ......basically same size engine as a Honda Civic 1.6 which is what we currently own and there is no way I'd tow a trailer with horse in it with that !!
