Since I meet her we have master loading, leading, catching, picking up feet, routine of part stabling, having a roller on and some traffic. We have come a very long way and I am taking my time and taking it slow... she has been a poppet.. so why am I constantly looking at backed horses in the for sale ads?? <snip> Sorry pointless rant over, just deflated as I can't get her used to a spray bottle, so feeling useless It sounds like you have achieved a lot! Try not to assess yourself on the thing you are struggling on right now. That will be resolved in time, I am sure. Instead, look abck on how far you have come and what you have achieved. If you can do all that - then I reckon you will master the issue of the spray bottle. Or just use a spongue to transfer whatever liquid you need to apply to the horse. That's what I do rather than have an argument with mine. Or something else I do is then use my hand to wipe over them whilst gradually bringing the spray bottle into play. They don't like it if you stand back and fire things at them, but often don't mind if you commit your own hand to the activity at the same time. I find the same is true of leg hosing: if you stand back and fire a hose at their legs, they don't like it. but if you massage their leg as you apply the hose water, all is fine. I think you have had plenty of good advice on this thread. Maybe you aren't in the right place at the moment to commit further to this horse - this may well be a grief effect, even though it has been a little while since you lost Ailsa. There are no time limits with grief! As he is loaned, you may as well send her back to her owners if your heart isn't in it. But don't make that decision based on the winter blues or a temporary frustration with training.

With you all on this one! My mate has gone out on loan as I just can't keep up all the exercise she needs just to stop her seizing up. I've given her 5 years of tears, sweat, pain( bucked off and kicked!!) and I won't even mention cost. I just wanted to go out and do a walk and trot test or even simpler, have the choice to do one. I feel though that some people don't think I've done the right thing but hey ho, I actually don't care now (although I used to worry what they thought) be honest with yourself - what do you want to do and how can you achieve it? By going down to just one horse I can afford more help and support to achieve my goal - after all it's not going mad and winning the olympics and at nearly 59 life is now too short. So sit and think and never beat yourself up about any decision you might make and also chose wisely who you listen to - we all have different views and others may not agree with yours which is not what you need

Sorry to hear you felt you had to loan her out, but as always you're doing your best for her. I feel I've satisfied my desire to bring up babies: they are an awful lot of work if you're going to produce a well rounded horse. I just want to go out for a ride a now and enjoy it. I have a bridleway to the Downs passing my field gate, I don't even have to touch tarmac, just need a pony that isn't going to be spooked by bikers flying around in the woods!

your not alone , both tom and fleur are looking for pastures new, im not the rider for them, they are too well trained , and my body is feeling its age, so i keep looking though ill probably stick with my old boy to plod around on, dressage rider i will never be, my dreams came too late for me, 10 years ago i never dreamt id have the physical issues i do now, i also keep looking at places to relocate to ,lol , time for this livery and farm to be passed on to other hands , i think there are worse things in life than to suit ones self given the little wisdom ive gained over the years , or is it wisdom might be foolishness and i might miss it all, nahhhh , im ready to retire with just my horses lol
