The Edinburgh District Riding Club holds all its events at the yard where I keep Honey and I'm feeling it's time to start having a little fun and maybe taking part in some things! I have no idea how Honey will behave but am totally happy to pull out and just let her observe if she takes a flakey! We always walk about in hand when that have events on anyway so she's quite used to it all but ridden is another thing all together. IIm not really sure what to turn her out like though.. I think the only class we can enter is the novice ridden as its walk/trot only and her canter is not up to scratch in a big group so novice is safest bet. I'd do the inland but I don't think she fits any of the categories as there's no cob class only a mountain and moorland (what does this include?) she's Gypsey cob x Morgan. She's bay- 15.1 and fatter than ideal right now ! I don't want to hog her as her main is finally long (SI pony). Would a running plait be correct or properly plaited up? Should I plait up her tail? I have beige johds (they are quite yellowish beige more than white) are these ok with a tweed (borrowed) Schedule is here: btckstorage.blob.core.windows.net/site2329/spring%20show.docxI'm obviously not going to win anything but it's just for a bit of fun but don't want to look like a complete idiot :-) Any help appreciated.

I'm no pro, but I'd say you would be fine in a running plait and your beige jodhs! Tail plaiting is your choice, though I do think it looks good. I did a few ridden classes like that on my little cob when I was younger and I always running plaited him, I never got told off for it. If it's only a local type thing, I don't think people will mind too much! If you decide to do it, would love to see photos!

Thanks I'll def take pics of I do. I have until wed to enter ! Eek! Her tail is Massive! So a plaited tail sometimes looks funny as the rest of it is so huge but prob neater than unplaited. Where should her tail be cut up to? It's just above her fetlock a just now x

The other thing you could try with her tail is to wet it down then put a tail bandage on for a little while, as this will help it to lie flatter and look smarter of you didn't want to plait. Length of tail is up to you, Rosie's is usually just below her hocks, maybe you could just trim the very bottom to make it nice and even?

what about the condition and turnout in hand and also the tack and turnout ridden? there is usually no cantering in the ridden tack and turount and no show, so for your first ridden class you just fo in the ring get checked over, get placed (hopefully) and leave.
