Thank you for mentioning this subject on this board,Amanda.
There seems to be a feeling among a lot of horse owners (those who have heard anything, that is) that this issue somehow doesn't concern us all.
I can only speak for the sport I see most of,and that is endurance. There are some parts of the world where they are ,quite literally, riding horses to death in the name of sport. Yes, that's what I said. RIDING HORSES TO DEATH.
I couldn't post pics on here as they are very distressing but anyone who would like to know more please Google "Splitters Creek Bundy".
If those pictures appal you (and they will) please, please get involved by asking your local horse group to protest to the FEI and ask them what they are doing to ensure nothing like this happens again. There are too many cases of horse deaths and abuse in competition in the Middle East.

Excellent to see this. I think so much was said about racing it was easy to miss what abuse is being done in the name of sport - dressage, endurance etc.we need to be constantly questioning methods and horse management and be aware that the vast amount of money involved now will harm horse welfare

I saw these pics of that poor Arab endurance horse in the desert, and they were truly awful. These endurance races in the Middle East are very worrying, and the exploitation of the generous nature and spirit of the Arabian Horse is utterly unforgivable in my opinion.
Does modern day equestrian sport just ask too much of our horses? Does our obsessive will to win blind us to how our top horses are struggling to cope with our demands? The modern show jumping and dressage scenes, with their conveyor belt systems of breeding and training strictly for one discipline, trouble me too. It's all getting a bit too ruthless and money orientated, I feel.
