I find this clip deeply upsetting to watch. This is the outstanding steeplechaser of the modern era which won over 2 million in prize money - he is now 13 and has been in a professional eventing yard for two years. Can anyone point me in the direction of the dressage manual which states that, to make the horse move forward, you have to kick repeatedly on the horse's ribcage while making huge jerky movements with your hands on the reins? www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/equestrian/30516647

Couldn't watch the whole clip - too painful. Kauto Star just didn't look like he was 'there'.

Cobby, that's exactly what I thought. He looks to me like a horse which has decided to shut down and ignore what is happening, in much the same way that riding school ponies can do. He was such a wonderful, joyful horse to watch in his racing days, and he brought so much pleasure to so many people, and I just find this painful to see.

She ends up throwing everything at him, even the dreaded 'scoopy bottom'. Nothing. Just an overbent horse, shuffling along, switched off. Poor boy.

Why didn't she just stop and leave the arena as soon as he "Switched Off"; he wasn't at all happy and in her interview she said she hadn't time to do more with him as concentrating on other horses and had a few accidents.

Way too "busy" poor lad. Not a good demonstration at all unless you are a Thelwell cartoon fan :/
Why inflict all that on him??!

The pressure really got to them both I think but the rider certainly did some not very nice things - I would have been happier to see her get off and lead or at least give him a little time to have a look around - call her groom to lead him while she was walking around or something. I felt a bit sorry for her at first but in the end I felt very sorry for Kauto
It's a scary arena at Olympia, not really sure how easy it is to prepare for something like that but just wish she'd done things differently!

He looked doped to me. I have no sympathy at all for the rider, total numpty.

Oh goodness. Why ever did she agree to do that. He's clearly no where near ready. If he'll ever be... poor horse. I'm sure lots of people are looking for a high profile retrained racehorse to promote but poor animal. Doesn't look like he's been given time to adjust.
