Still seemingly show signs of being in season? Has anybody had a horse with phantom pregnancy?

Worrryingly yeah she is huge im concerned its a baby x shetland :/ ..... she would drop it around now if it was :/ eeeek! Got vet Friday so he can give her a once over. She does get fat but i have hardly fed her, Its her tum not her whole body. She still tartbagging it up with Timmy though so i presume im just worried for nought but im sure mares can still show mareishness even if in foal? She had a phantom pregnancy years ago now.Vet think she slipped foal early or just hormones went nuts and just carried on showing signs so i guess it could be that again but its rare isnt it? Oh well fingers crossed she just getting middle age sag otherwise im in for it.

Mayfly's mum did. You'd have sworn she was in season. Hormones are funny things.

Phantom pregnancies are unusual in horses.
Mares in foal can show signs of a season, yes.
Only way to know for sure is to let vet check her.

Yes had a Fell mare that looked to be raging in season about three months before she had a colt foal. Also had a mare that was looking in season until we tried to cover her and she turned really violent about it, turned out she had already held. I personally think they appear to be in season to us but they are not at all, maybe their hormones are going up and down with the pregnancy and they are mixed up but one thing is for sure they dont stand.

This is when it's worth having a really good stallion. My lad can be put to a mare that appears in foal, and he'll tell me if they're truly in season or not. If not, he won't cover, even if they're willing to stand. Some mares will even stand when showing a false season, even if already in foal.

I've had both.. One mare showed in season right thought out her pregnancy, others did on and off.. Not sure there was even a gelding near them.... Also had a pony mare who had a phantom pregnancy.. Even milk, labour etc etc.. I pleaded with the owner to get her scanned but she wouldn't.. Then the mare started behaviour problems, bucking.. I assume she had ovary problems.. The owner just sold her
