Poor wee chap had colic last night, emergency vet call out (just finished paying a vets bill as well) last night. He was much more comfortable at midnight, quite settled through out the night & much chirpier this morning so fingers crossed he continues to go this way.
Could weather have caused this? Was very warm here on Tuesday night & all the ponies were quite sweaty (he has a huge coat) & by Weds morning the ground was frozen.

Do hope he's on the mend; very worrying I know, been there quite a few times with Harry. Harry's colic can be caused by sudden change, weather/grass/worms so very difficult to suggest a definate cause. Sending healing vibes. xx

That's the worst bit, not knowing what's caused it. It's the first time in 3 years ownership he has had it so I'm hoping it's a one off. Much better this afternoon just turned him out for a couple of hours and he was bucking & whizzing about with his pal.

That's a relief Wills, hope he continues to mend. It's just awful when they're ill with colic. Sounds as if Duncan is pretty much feeling ok now though, that's great! x

Sounds as if Duncan is pretty much feeling ok now though, that's great! x It is awful indeed, I have lost a horse to colic before, so I am super paranoid about it. He was lying down in his box when I went back at 4, temp & everything was okay and he was bright enough. Checked at 6 up & eating.

I'm still not convinced but trying hard not to be Mrs Paranoid. Just been over and hes standing with his head hanging, temp and breathing fine, bright eyes, good gum colour, droppings are fine. It's been so long since I've dealt with colic. Will he be tired after all the drama? He was sedated as well & come to think of it he was funny for a few days the last time he was sedated. Funny how when its your own horse not well you go back to feeling like a complete newbie owner & forgetting everything. Or is it just me that does that?!

Oh heck wills, I hope he's all right. I know when Dave was sedated to have stitches, it took him a good while to be back to his normal jolly self again. Glad the signs are all right, especially the droppings - we who have suffered a GS loss are particularly Mrs Paranoid about that one. He may just have some residual pain, but they do all react differently to sedation, the wee fellas especially. Fingers crossed he's back to normal by the morning.

Harry always takes a few days to recover when he has a minor colic attack, but when he had his major one last March (with sedation/pumped stomach etc), I would say he wasn't 100% for at least a month and when I look at the photos I took of him then he didn't look right/lost condition too. I too am totally paranoid about colic, and am continuously on guard for the slightest change in his demeanour!! Always easier to be "expert" when your not emotionally attached to your own horse. Hope things are OK xx
