Sidepull Crossover Hackamore.
How are they different? Add more types if you like. Also comments on the materials used i.e leather or rope thick and thin.

Scawbrig Bosal Not sure, think available in different materials. For anyone interested, Bitless and Barefoot are offering a months' bridle trial at the moment, to see if they suit. I'm seriously considering it. x

Ooo I might be will investigate. Baffle goes so nicely In headcollar so it seems pointless chucking a bit in the midst at least for now.

Yes, I'm tempted. I'd really like to ride without the metal if he's okay with it, I'm such a wuss! Got to be worth trying though, I think-hope!

Sidepull are great, don't like cross-over as they often don't release quickly enough and some horses hate the squeeze, had great success with s-hackamore.

I'm going to trial the Matrix, to try the Scawbrig and Sidepull. Have used a Dr. Cooks' before, and didn't get on with it. I just thought with the Matrix, I've got most of the options in one, and can try them all!

I'm hoping Baffle will like it as much as just the headcollar but with a big more refinement. I'm not really doing much as such as,he just holds his head and neck naturally low when I get on board and flexes nicely for his treats do will keep on working with that for now. I only want to pootle out on some slower hacks with him if at all possible. I had hoped to work with him tomorrow but I'm stuck at work again. Mind you hog free weekend do let's hope.

Sounds like I'm the same as you then Troop, as to what I'm doing. Poor Morgan had a broken wolf tooth, so even more reason to try one now!

I use a rawhide bosal or hackamore. I am not a fan of whats called a "mechanical hackamore".. the shanked device with leverage. IMO, not much is gained by going "bitless" but still having a leverage device.. but that's just an opinion.
Also have a sidepull that I don't use much, its also rawhide. It worked so-so on a horse with a broken jaw, plenty of control but not my favourite. Natural materials seem to have a little more feel and forgiveness.
A bosal/hackamore takes a bit of getting used to, for both the rider and the horse. Its a little different feel entirely and makes the rider REALLY think about what they are asking through the reins. Some horses will push through them... it's probably hard to find enough to try out a variety though. I just sold three bosals super cheap... :/ could have sent you a boxful to try out!

Get on really well with Dr Cooks. My horse was 20 when I changed him over and he has been so relaxed, forward going and happy ( and perfectly controlled!) ever since.

So interesting how they all react differently to the same type, just like us really! Wouldn't do for us/them all to be the same. so Matrix has arrived, have tried Morgan in it set up as a sidepull, he wasn't to sure, but he responds better out on a hack, and I only tried him on the yard. So have changed it now to a scawbrig, and will try that on him on the yard. Then, if I can get away from being a labourer, and fixing the path, I may be able to get out and ride!!
