Ideally, for under £100 - but happy to spend more, if they will last. I'm moving from a yard on sandy soil to a yard on clay & I've got fairly thin-ish calves, so I find a lot if wellies too wide & I'm worried I might loose them in the real winter mud ...! I did have a pair of Muckboot Tynes some years ago, but I remember them to be quite heavy (as well as horrifically ugly - but I'll take ugly if need be ) so interested in other suggestions Thanks x

Caldene Westfield - neoprene lined so lovely and warm (I forget to them off wen I get in the house) and only around £60. Not bad looking either

I have a pair of Caldenes too and they're very comfortable, but the first pair I had split after only a few months. They were replaced without a quibble though, and touch wood will survive the winter! They're not exactly streamlined though, you might find them wide for your calves. I have calves like a mountaineer so they're fine for me

I've just discovered that you can buy these in adult sizes! Best wellies ever! Maybe not all that good on the longevity front ...

I found the caldene ones very comfortable but I had two pairs split in a matter of months (although I wear them quite a bit, I don't abuse them). I gave in and bought aigle ones in the end and do not regret it.

Le chameau for me. My last pair were 5 winters in when the neoprene lining started coming away although the rubber itself is still in fantastic condition. I went shopping for new ones this summer and tried a few different brands but they just didn't compare so new Le chameau arrived a few weeks ago - so comfy, like slippers

Muckboots for me. I'm on my second pair now, but I've had these ones for ever two years, and probably worn them twice a day almost every day. You need the ones with the more substantial sole - the thinner ridged sole has no grip in mud or snow, but the chunky one is brilliant. Not things of beauty, but I've had warm, dry, chilblain free toes ever since I bought the first pair, so who's complaining?

The lady at Eccleshall where I bought my Caldene ones from said she had had a lot of the blue ones returned, seems to be a problem with them. Were the ones you had blue, Jan and Clipclop?

No Jill, mine were brown. Haven't worn the replacement pair very much yet as I got them just at the start of summer, so we'll have to see how long they last now the mud has returned.
My Aigles and Muckboots didn't last that long either, that's partly why I decided on the Caldenes as at least they didn't break the bank. Just about the only wellies I haven't tried are the le Chameau...

Thanks for the recommendations I do like the look of the Caldene boots - but I had heard to few people had problems with them splitting, which put me off. Would the Muckboot Tyne's (the riding ones) have a thick enough sole - or am I still likely to go slipping all over the place?! X
