You have my huge sympathy especially after falling off at a gallop- my good wishes for a fast recovery. After falling off, I am surprised anyone ever gets back on a horse ever again, but there you are, it seems most people do. I hope you have someone to take care of you for the next few days while you recover.

Poor you, I hope you feel better soon. Is he sensitive to horseflies? The reason I ask is that Bambi sort of hopped a bit and tossed her head mid-canter this morning which is also out of character for her: she never bucks or does anything horrid. I'm pretty sure it was a fly attack, she absolutely hates them and does react, especially when they land on her face and neck. I've got pretty adept at wiping them off in walk and trot (she's only 14.1 and I have long arms!) but I haven't mastered the knack of doing it in canter yet

thanks Jan, I did wonder about flies. I was at a show and he had been really good in the morning and won his class and reserve champion. Went in to do the small hunter - he went like a dream and was pulled in first - in my show he just went mental in the gallop. My instructor was also in the class and said he was bucking huge - its just not like him and I have had him a long long time. I did try to look yesterday but I can't bend down properly as they suspect I have broken rib(s) and my hip doesn't want to bend as I have done in the ligaments. I will try and get him in today. I will see if my instructor can come and lunge him and see if anything seems apparent. Otherwise we are on the full run of checks.

Ouch, poor you that sounds nasty, glad you're not more seriously hurt. I have a friend whose normally sensible cob exploded bucking and then bolted home when he trod on a wasps' nest, it was very scary indeed but that was obvious - he was covered in dozens of stings. My saddle fitter scared me last week by showing me several saddle trees that had protruding rivets or other bits of metal sticking into the horse's back, and my own lovely Barrie Swain saddle which I thought was fine has a twisted tree and may well have contributed to my cob bucking me off straight into an air ambulance 18 months ago.... I'm sure you'll be checking your saddle, just make sure it hasn't incurred some invisible damage that could have made him buck. Horses eh?
