Anyone with experience of these? My bestest friend has a cremello horse that has loads of small ones but the one under his jawline has grown in two weeks to the 'size of a small lemon'. He is going to have it removed surgically on Friday but she is concerned what lies underneath. Anyone else seen this rapid growth? and what were outcomes?

I've never seen rapid growth like that. I think it's like human melanomas - you have to be vigilant and look out for changes. The only horse I knew who died from complications from one was a highland who had them all his life but had one the grew significantly on his neck. It only seemed to effect his way of going at around 22 and he was eventually pts around 24 when he seemed to find neck movement hard and it effected his grazing. Histopathology of the lump should them more of an idea of what's going on and what to expect. Hope it goes well. x

Casper has 2 on his sheath which are being monitored over time. Vet said they go either way, some just suddenly grow others never change for whole life.

Well I've got everthing crossed for her - she is trying to be sensible and saying things like 'well I'm very aware of what could be happening below the surface and am prepared' but she adores him so just hoping its nothing bad. Apparently a specialist vet from Cambridge is coming over to do it as it is a difficult area for nerves and blood vessels.

When I was 11, I had a Cremello pony who had them on his eyelids. His previous owner had had some frozen off before we had him and we had to have some done too. They got the better of him after a few years. A friend had a grey mare with them under her tail and around her "bits", she also had a huge one on her head, which made her browband sit wonky. Although she was very lumpy, she lived to her mid 20's and was still in work.
