Earlier this week had to say goodbye to my super dog. It was extremely quick, ill for a day or two, and then on the third day so ill no other option than to be put out of his pain. Feel lost without my little friend who was always by my side… when not chasing pigeons, rabbits, pheasants and squirrels. He was with me every day with the horses, which he loved, free to roam around the stables, neighbouring stables and surrounding fields.
I realised one day that he made me smile every morning… a big smile even when times have been tough. Ten years went by in a whisper. Heartbroken without him, he loved the world and everyone in it. Feel like a "billy no mates" without him.

A LETTER FROM HEAVEN
My Dearest Friend, Some things I'd like to say but first of all to let you know that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from Heaven where I dwell with God above where there's no more tears or sadness, there is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight, remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on Earth was through, God picked me up and hugged me and He said "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone, as for your dearest family they'll be here later on.
Then God gave me a list of things He wished for me to do, and foremost on that list of mine is to watch and care for you.
And I will be beside you every day and week and year, and when you're sad, I'm standing there to wipe away the tear.
And when you lie in bed at night, the days chores put to flight, God and I are closest to you in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on Earth and all those loving years, because you're only human they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry, it does relieve the pain, but remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you of all that God has planned, but if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on Earth is o'er. I am closer to you now than I ever was before.
And to my very many friends, trust God knows what is best. I'm still not far away from you, I'm just beyond the crest.
When you are walking down the street and you've got me on your mind, I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when you feel the gentle breeze or the wind upon your face, that's me giving you a great big hug or just a soft embrace.
And when it's time for you to go from that body to be free, remember you're not going, you are coming here to me,
And I will always love you from that land way up above. Will be in touch again soon. P.S. God sends His Love

Veronica F, so sorry to hear about your horse - it's so hard isn't it? The verses are comforting - thank you for taking the time, and having the kindness, to share them.
Thanks also to Portiabuzz and Laddiesmum, means a lot x

I am so sorry to hear of your loss nightowl. Although I am a priest and spend a lot of time helping people with bereavement, I am also someone who has lost both humans and animals, as many here are. There is no pain like it and I both sympathise and empathise with you at this time. The world looks darker somehow, reality shifts as you try to make sense of an existance without your loved one and you wonder if you will ever be happy again. I find it very helpful to look at the accounts of Near Death Experience survivors and read about their experience of the afterlife and being reunited with their loved ones - including their animal loved ones. Knowing that you will be together again one day can be the only thing that makes the experience of loss bearable. It has been for me. It's the only thing that makes it bearable loving the animals still with me that I dread the loss of every time I look at them. I wrote a book about bereavement and Near Death Experiences which is free to download from the home page of our website. You would be very welcome to read it and I truly hope it helps you at this difficult time: bereavementrescue.org.ukBut for now, know I am thinking of and praying for you and I am sure all here feel great sorrow for your loss and empathy for your pain. People don't always know what to say to the bereaved and I am sure I get it wrong at times too (hopefully not now I pray!). But you are in the company of animal lovers here and I am sure we all know how you feel at the moment, wish we could lessen your pain a little and hold you in our hearts at this time. xxx

Oh Caroline, thank you. Where you say the world seems darker resonates so clearly with me. You didn't say the wrong things - Your words have given me comfort, and I'm going to follow the link now.
For some reason I felt compelled to post about my little friend - that posting has brought kind words, prayers and advice to me. Thank you for taking the time. Appreciated so very very much. xxx
