Going to put some obstacles up. Slalom is already there and a small jump and pole on ground. So i need bridge (any ideas?) a bell and a reverse area. Oh and a broom stick and ring .... do you think it would be sensible to start with a short piece of wood? Or perhaps just walk next to horse with a pole until brave enough to get on. Does anybody actually compete in this? I know they have style points and a speed test and am i right they have a dressage section? Im not likely to compete this is just for fun at home.

Never heard of it, is it similar to agility? I'm taking Lucas on an agility training course and competition on Saturday so I'm hoping to come back with lots of ideas: he'll love it, destroying obstacles is just his cup of tea

I've done a tiny bit with Gazdag, only training but it's great fun! I've also ridden Lusos round a training course in Portugal which is fab :-)
Re the garrocha, I started with a length of narrow plastic pipe to get G used to me carrying something long, it was lighter weight than wood so easier to handle with a novice horse. He was never really that bothered.
For those who don't know about WE, look on You Tube for Pedro Torres on Obidos - one of the best combinations IMHO! It's not agility, it's a competition designed to test the skills needed of the Spanish and Portuguese "cowboys". Hence using the garrocha (long wooden pole) to control the cattle, doing small jumps, going through gates, and small turns with flying changes etc.

One of our Summer Campers put that vid up on my timeline on Facebook, with the witty "Lisa will probably have us doing this at Camp this year, hee hee". Obstacles are now built, flatwork test is designed, judges appointed..... Now they are all very scared. Can't imagine why!!

Oooh, I wish the Bambster and I could join you for that Lisa, but sadly looking after three doesn't leave a lot of spare cash in the pot.... next year perhaps
