With social media and other commitments demanding more and more time, we have decided that we need to simplify things so we can focus where we feel there is greatest benefit to IH. Because of this, we will be making some major changes to the DG, including closing down most of the open access boards.
The IH members' board will remain as it is. To post in this section you will need to be turned green by the Mods - please PM them through this board with your membership number and it will be done as soon as possible.
The General Horse Talk section will be locked so that existing threads can still be searched and read, but you will no longer be able to post on it. The Horse help section will also be locked, and replaced by a new 'Ask an Expert' section, whereby behaviour related questions can be asked to an RA for a contribution to our charity fund. All other forums will be locked and archived and all historic posts will still be viewable and searchable.
The Non Horse Section is currently set to remain open to all forum posters. These changes will start to take place with the quieter boards over the next few weeks with the main work being carried out in the week commencing 28th July 2014. We know this will cause some disappointment. We hope that many of you will find the members' board satisfies your forum needs!

This is really sad. I don't own a horse at the moment as I don't have the time or money so I just can't justify the cost of 'turning green'. Will miss getting my horsey fix on here - haven't been around long but I really enjoy hearing about everyone else's trials, tribulations and jubilations. Shame.

I'm really sorry, but not surprised, to read this - I think it's the same with forums everywhere, FB has taken so much traffic away from most forums. Lucyawild, it would be such a shame to lose you, I enjoyed reading about your horsey experiences. Could you possibly afford to join IH? It is such a bargain, at £20 for a whole year if you pay by dd, and you get four lovely magazines a year too for your money. Really glad to see the members' forum continuing at least, but I shall miss the NH one very much.

The Non-Horsey chat forum is currently under review - it's presently going to stay open to both members and non-members (the only forum that is).

YAY!! phew!! at least for the time being, though its a shame for non facebookers that they can't have General chat about horse issues, incidents, tales and anecdotes. I know there are few non FB'ers that contribute a lot to the DG, PB and Wizard to mention just two. I'm not sure how the 'Ask an Expert' will work? on the courses and at the demos we are told & taught that timing is key. Timing can't be advised by email and each horse is unique, so two horses with the same or very similar symptons or behaviours would react in very different ways to the other even though the advice was the same. Some things have to be seen to understand the behaviour and know the best way to tackle the problem for that particular horse...... n'cest pas?

ps: when people post a problem or a question in General, lots and lots of people respond with ideas, tips and advice on what worked for them or a friend, its a real 'community spirit' lets help each other situation. Could General not stay as just General then the NH section (we FaGS'ers will behave promise ) and then if necessary the Ask an Expert though I'm least sure of all about that one?

Or could General and NH just merge to give one open free for all type forum?

I suppose this was only a matter of time as the boards are so much quieter these days. End of an era, sad but we all have to move on and with the times.

It's a shame but completely understandable. IH only have so many resources at their disposal and it makes sense that they should be used in a way that will reach the most people. Unfortunately forums do seem to be a bit of a dying breed! Hope some people will take the plunge and "go green" because there are lots of great people from general that I will miss! To be perfectly honest at only £20 a year it's not much at all.... you really do get a lot for your money! Glad the members board is staying open anyway!!

I'd like to extend huge thanks Kelly and the IH team for providing and managing these free boards over the years. They have been an inspiration, informative, challenging , very interesting, supportive and great fun. IH has been a great foundation for me and I will be forever grateful for the encouragement to question and learn from the team and so many posters who have shared their knowledge and experiences.

Some things have to be seen to understand the behaviour and know the best way to tackle the problem for that particular horse...... n'cest pas? I've been an expert on the (very, very) quiet Horse and Rider forum for a while, and can usually get people pointing in the right direction. I'm pretty good a guessing what might be at the root of a problem and can give advice (albeit with a caveat about not having seen the horse) that is more often than not helpful. Sometimes a bit of video can help, but very often I'll be able to give a fairly good guess as what's going on and how to start tackling the problem. The best course, though, is always to book an RA. D'accord?
