Does anyone have one? im not coping well, 4 years this september after mis carriage i had it fitted and i really feel ive got to have it out. Long history of problems with periods which i wont bore you with, last 6 months periods are hell. so so heavy and cramps that drain me and make me want to lie down - spent most of weekend in house. ive not had kids yet so was told would be painful but this is a joke, on neurofen now and i feel like i cant 'do' another period like this. wedding in august, am desperate for kids but waiting till all wedding out of the way so thinking go on pill for rest of year and come off it next year and see what happens? got to speak to OH but i feel like ripping this coil out with my bare hands ATM!!! My moods are vile but when bleeding so much and in so much pain hard to be normal!! OH is v good at putting up with it started taking Agnus Cactus this month which made me feel less stressed, but the pain has made me cry this month and im good with pain generally. Going docs for smear (finally) next monday so will speak to them. Sound good idea??

I know a few people who have had it. My cousin had it for about 15 months and now had it taken out. Have you been on the pill before or have you tried an implant? Or what about the contraceptive jag? Hope you get something sorted soon

Poor you, that's no fun hun I've had very painful ones at various times over the years too, not sure why worse sometimes than others but at one point the pains were so bad I passed out in public several times, once when I was in Boots trying to buy painkillers. It also happened on a train once, and on a training course and, worst of all, in front of my accountant whilst going over my annual accounts!! It was awful, embarrassing and humiliating and unbelievably painful and I'm really not the fainting type normally. I don't think there's any pain worse, so don't underestimate its effect on you. I talked to my GP and decided to go on the pill, best decision I ever made as it sorted out the problem of bad pain and heavy bleeding, made it all easier and meant I didn't lose a couple of days out of every month when all I wanted to do was curl up in bed with a hot water bottle, sobbing with pain. When I came off the pill a few years later everything was much more "normal". Definitely go and talk to your GP, pain like that just makes you completely miserable and you can't function properly until you find a way of sorting it out. Never had a coil, but if you don't feel it's right it probably isn't. Just a thought, but what's your diet like? I stumbled across an article yesterday whilst reading about magnesium deficiency in horses (it's always horses isn't it ) which suggested that magnesium deficiency can be a major cause of bad period cramps in humans. Now, let's see if I can find the link again..... Yep, here it is Magnesium: A Key to Calcium Absorption . Most of the article is about arthritis and osteoporosis but if you scroll down further it talks about menstrual cramps. The theory is that our modern diets are too high in calcium (dairy etc) and too low in magnesium, and insufficient magnesium actually interferes with the uptake of calcium so it's possible to have poor calcium absorption even though eating too much. The recommendation is to eat less dairy and sugar and drink less alcohol (sugar and alcohol both interfere with magnesium absorption) and eat more whole grains, beans, seeds, green veg and fish. Oh and apparently, if you crave chocolate at the "time of the month", which I do when mine are bad, that can also indicate magnesium deficiency as chocolate is the highest in magnesium of all foods! The article, of course, says you should eat more nuts and seeds not more chocolate, but you know what - have some chocolate PB

No experience with the coil but definitely a good idea to speak to the doctor/nurse and find out about other options, no one thing suits everyone. That would be far too easy!

That made my morning Bertie, chuckling loudly here - that's some craving, to actually PLAN, BAKE AND EAT a chocolate cake on your fast day!!! That article I mentioned does say magnesium supplements can be useful, though definitely not as tasty as chocolate cake Hee hee, next time you bake a chocolate cake perhaps you should put a bit of mag ox powder in it

Brill post by Jan and Bertie (lol), do get checked out PB asap, periods should NOT be like that and friends I have known have them have all suffered horribly. The only that seems to have a fan base is the Marena coil (lovingly nicknamed the Macarena) don't know how or why it is different but if it's a coil you want rather than a pill it might worth talking to the Dr about. Good Luck honey
