The 2013 auction will be run during the first week of December. Please donate and buy, generously - as well as grabbing bargains and having some fun, we hope to raise some much needed money for Shy Lowen.
The rules
Auction items can be listed un the Charity Appeal section of the DG from now. Anything can be listed, provided it is legal, not offensive and you think someone might want to buy it.
Each lot should have its own thread, with the heading showing 'Auction - name of item'. People can then comment and bid on that thread.
There will be two ways of bidding, either through the DG or through ebay.
- listing through the DG. Bids for these items will be directly onto the item's thread. Payment at the end goes to the IH charity fund.
- listing through ebay. The threads for these items will show a link to the ebay listing. Anyone on ebay can bid on these, so it may increase the final winning bid. These listings should have at least 60% of their proceeds to Shy Lowen. To do this, create your listing as normal. Just below where you put your starting price you should find a section that says 'Raise money for your favourite charity'. Click on 'select another charity' and enter Shy Lowen in the search box. When you are returned to the main listing screen, select the percentage of the final sale amount to donate. To join in the DG auction week this must be at least 60%.
Sellers can choose if they wish to ask for postage through either method, and starting bids can also be fixed. Bidders should make sure they know.
Sellers are responsible for listing their lots accurately. Please show as much detail on the DG as you would on ebay, so item condition, etc. It's also very helpful if every listing has a photograph.
Ebay auctions should run during the same week as the DG auction. Sellers should start their listings on 1st December for 7 days.
I'm still getting used to ebay for charities, but my understanding is that listing fees are reimbursed to the extent of the donation to charity. If avoiding listing fees is important to you, please check for yourself first so we don't get any nasty surprises later.
Winning bidders must make contact with either myself or the seller within 5 days of the end of the auction. Failure to do so may result in the item being offered to the next highest bidder.
Any bids placed on DG threads before 7am on 1st December will not count. DG bidding will end at 9pm on 7th December. Any bids placed after that time will not count unless there is no other bid on the item.
I've probably forgotten something - please ask below if there are any questions!
