I love Heather's saddles. I have a Vogue. I'm selling my Fhoenix as my mum hasn't had a horse to put it on for a year now. Let me know if you want any details .

Does the fhoenix come in different sizes? All the second hand ones I've seen are 18". I have a 17" tree'd saddle so I'm assuming I would need a 17" fhoenix...? Or are they measured on the big side due to all the padding?

I'm usually a 17", not sure if this is 17 or 18", but it fits me fine. It's a black GP, excellent condition, would like £400 for it. Let me know if it's of any use to you or you'd like pictures .

cheeky chops - definitely worth getting shoulder shims to try (or a shimmy pad) once the FlexEE has settled Heather says only the widest *flattest* shaped horses will not need shims/pad to fit it much like a 'treeless' needs a pad. Ok its a pain to fiddle with shims but once you have it right its SO worth it. My old WIDE cob has a FlexEE and I am waiting on shims to arrive as its now dropped then it will be fine again. I have a Vogue and a FlexEE and love both but the FlexEE is much more 'tree'd' to ride in. But both fab saddles. In fact the Vogue is the only saddle my other mare will tolerate (not tried her in the FlexEE yet!).

Thanks Lucia, alas the FlexEE went with Mariaana and I now have a Barry Swain holistic saddle which is perfect for him. The FlexEE is still for sale though through Better Saddles.

Ok so I have been looking at second hand fhoenix saddles and i'm a little confused with the various models. The two people on my yard who have HM saddles both have the 'bean bag' under the saddle. Most of the second hand ones I have seen don't have the 'bean bag' but instead have padding built into the underside of the saddle. I like the idea of a bean bag moulding to my horses back, but does it make the saddle more prone to slip or move if we're doing fast work or jumping?
Does anyone know the differences and which is better in which circumstance?
Thank you!

Cheekychops - the Swain Holistic tree'd saddles are good - literally just sold mine this week actually as it no longer fitted my mare (hence getting the FlexEE).
