Due to a change in personal circumstances that are sadly not going to change any time soon I do not feel I am able to give my fantastic boy the time and care that he deserves.
Since before Christmas I have been struggling through hoping some miracle would make things better but I have now hit reality hard and realised that I need to find someone else to love him as much as I do.
Alfie is a 16.3hh 3/4 ID Gelding. He is 18 years old this year (but still thinks he is 4!!)
Alfie is a horse in a million, he is safe and sensible, but still fun. He is an amazing confidence giver and if it wasn't for him I would not have been on a horse at all again after a massive confidence loss.
He has been used pretty much only for hacking in the 2.5 years I have had him with the odd jump/sponsored ride and some occasional flat work. He is bombproof in all respects - will go out alone or in company, first or last. He looks after his rider, can be forward if wanted or slow and ploddy if you prefer.
When I got him he was barefoot but due to poor foot confirmation in one front foot the hoof always grew slightly distorted, he now has bar shoes in front and barefoot behind which does him really well but he has also had standard shoes in front which were fine also. Given his foot confirmation he is not suitable for jumping extensively - he happily does sponsored rides up to 2'9 but not every weekend.
He is good to shoe, load, travel etc but he does not like being clipped at all - he has obviously had a bad experience at some point and his old owner used to heavily sedate him to clip. I have done a great deal of work on this and can now lightly clip him unsedated but it does take a lot of patience and trust.
He is ridden bitless or bitted and in a standard leather gp. He currently lives out 24/7 but requires good rugging in the winter as he does feel the cold. He also happily lives in part of the time and will and has lived with mares, geldings, mixed herd or on his own.
I am looking for someone to take him on a permanent/long term loan - so that I can control his future and make sure he is safe and happy for the rest of his days, I owe him that. He would come with a full and extensive wardrobe of kit - everything he possibly needs.
He is currently fairly unfit as I have only had minimal opportunity to ride since Christmas but he is the sort that yu can just jump straight back on.
He is based in Buckinghamshire - if anyone knows anyone who may be interested I would be much appreciated.
