Snow day! Office is closed ;D However no-one can get up to the farm as the roads are impassable. Thankfully the YO lives on site so can do the hay rounds with his tractor. How's everyone surviving? I plan on not leaving the house today

Snow day, you lucky thing... I just have to work from home if it snows! Coping OK here other that having to force Ailsa out this morning in it, she is the most wimpy / spoiled highland have ever known. She would much rather be in her stable being feed, than being out in the cold having to god for bid look for food... Shock horror. Amigo hasn't even noticed it's snowing and still shoot off like a rocket this morning, that boy is a nutter

Very jealous!! I'm currently at work and even if they do send us home we have to work from home.
Left my girly with a mountain of hay, her ball and a swede to keep her going incase I can't make it down at lunchtime like I normally do (although knowing her she will have demolished it all by now anyway!) but I imagine I will be having to trek the 2 hour round trip to walk to the yard and back later! ;D

I work from home too, so business as usual here except I've brought my laptop downstairs so I can work by the woodburner - soooo cosy . Horses are still away so I'm planning not to go out today: the cold makes my scars and damaged facial tissue hurt badly, even through thick layers of scarves and hats. Ru took the dog out for a walk a good while ago and it's a serious blizzard out there - wonder how long I should wait before sending out the search party? Err, except there's no-one to send unless I venture out myself!!

My lot are having a day in - fortunately there are 3 old empty stables so they can have a change of scene and look out over the fields from their living rooms. Last I saw of them Caspar had snow all down the windward side of his face, Reg was huddled in the back of the stable and Sabria was pretending it didn't exist. Back to their bedrooms in the barn later.

I should clarify that I am actually working from home. Mostly so far it has involved drinking tea and making banana bread I'm sure my boy would love a day in, alas it's not an option, but thankfully he's pretty rufty-tufty anyway so will survive!

I work in a hospital so no such thing as a snow day for me!
However- we haven't actually got any yet- apart from what's left from the beginning of the week. Hope it does actually snow now as I've left the ponies thing in anticipation of impending doom etc!

I am in work. They might send us home but I don't know. I was up the yard at 5:30am as per usualy this morning. Horses are out and quite happy. I chucked a bit of hay out for them just so they had something in their bellies (expecially mums tb) but they seemed to be able to find food so I'm not that worried.
Drive home from yard was a bit dicey and the drive to work was awful! I am not looking forward to driving home.

Some muppet was contacting radio 2 this morning crossing Bodmin by car heading from Cornwall to Norwich to see their grandchild - do people have no brains? Sorry bit of a rant, but it is blizzard conditions here today - already had to rescue 1 livery who got her 4x4 stuck - just battened down the hatches waiting for all the snow to blow off the mountain and bury the house/barns.

Crystal is in for her own good..............at 26 she can have a day in her boudoir if she wishes, Inaya 'does not do snow as she is a Princess' and Prince well less said about him the better, he's a total wusspants......................actually YO said they were all staying in today as the yard was not safe, but its been gritted so they will all have turnout and leg stretch time. Which means Crystal will hoon about in the school like a loony, Inaya will stand by the school gate looking pathetic and wanting in, and Prince will mooch around hoping for food.........cos we starve him, although he looks like a porky piglet at the moment! We only had a smattering of the white stuff but theres more to come later

I wondered about turning out. I am lucky that I have mine at home, just a few steps away. I decided to put them out around 10.30 after having extra hay. First one went out and promptly had 2 or 3 rolls. By the time I got back with the other he was still waiting by the gate but I could see one leg strap dangling. Eek. What to do? So I loosely tied 2nd one to the gatepost and went to sort out the rug, 2 rugs, 4 leg straps. Luckily he was still waiting for his mate, so didn't want to rush off and didn't mind me fiddling round his back legs. Put fried into field and they didn't gallop off, just wandered over to some hay and now I can see them the other end of the field. So I am glad I turned them out today now. Will come back in after lunch time and they will be pleased.

We got all the boxes done, water, feeds etc ready for the night, this morning before 9am. Including the 'pm only' liveries, just in case. Turned them all out for the day and YO will catch all in as late as possible.
The snow had barely started when we finished but as we left the yard there were vehicles in ditches and the road was an ice-rink, so much for gritting!
We are now under a blanket but everything is sorted for the night.
Completely agree with the opinion of the numpties who can't understand what an essential journey is. I don't want to let the weather beat me but there is such a thing as commonsense and minimising the risks!

I have been on a course this morning for my new job. The lady running this afternoon's course has sensibly cancelled. She was coming into Sheffield from the peak district, coming out wouldnt have been a problem, getting back this afternoon may well have been! It is very fine snow falling at the moment but we are forecast more. I do feel for you poor guys in Wales and the South West Not planning to go very far this afternoon, just sort the horses later this afternoon. Might bring the two fatties in for the night just to give them a bit of a break from the snow.

I'm very disappointed: I'd planned to take today off "because of the snow and dangerous driving conditions" (wrote my car off trying to get off my drive last winter!) but with 2mm this morning which has already melted I had little choice but to go in
