My 2 ponies are at a livery yard with 25 other horses and ponies. Nice yard where everyone generally gets on and all the horses are well looked after. A local lady brings her 2 ponies for the winter each year. She's a bit of a character but this year that character is becoming unbearable! It's as if she thinks she is the yard manager and she spends her time questioning people on what yard duties they have done that day. She is always having a go at the children on the yard to the point where its bullying. We have all been shown the correct way to fill a haynet, the correct way to fill a bag with straw to take to our stable. The list goes on!! The farmer who owns the yard has known this lady for many years. He knows exactly what she's like but it's almost as if he's a bit afraid of her. The other night she told one of the mothers that her 14 year old son was disrespectful to adults when he's one of the nicest boys you could meet. She's told us that the farmer and her are making a new set of rules and there will be financial penalties if the rules are not adhered to. I can't imagine the farmer actually knows about this one!! She has also told everyone she's going to have cctv put up so she can find out who the terrible person is that's not keeping the muck heap tidy. A couple of times she has turned out one of her ponies in a field with ponies he's never been in with just because it suited her as she didn't want to walk the longer distance to our field. She moved ponies out of a paddock ajoining their field so she could put her pony in when he first arrived, because she didn't want to walk to a different field. She is a law unto herself with total disregard for others and their horses.
Most of what she does I can cope with, but the other day she crossed the line and did something which has made me furious
My pony Dougal is lame. He's badly damages one of his gluteal muscles and is very sore walking. I turned him out to stretch his legs at lunchtime and went off to work. The lady concerned knew he was lame and knew I was going to work. She took her grandchildren down to the field as they wanted to sit on her pony. She couldn't catch him so guess what she did? Oh! let's choose another pony! A lame one!! She put a headcollar on Dougal and gave her grandchildren pony rides in the field on him!
The following morning I was at work but my 12 year old daughter was at the yard and the lady told her what she'd done. I think she only told her as she knew some of the others on the yard saw what she had done. I was absolutely furious and when I arrived at the yard that afternoon I told her so. Her reaction was awful. She apologised but at one point laughed in my face, and also said she misjudged me and said she thought I'd be more understanding. She compared it to me using her fork sometimes on the yard. I have never been so angry. I spoke with the farmer and he agreed she was in the wrong, but I just know he'll not say anything to her. I have told her she is never ever to have anything to do with my ponies again. As the title says, am I over reacting? I worry that she's been up to allsorts that nobody knows about, and who knows what she'll do next!!
