I couldnt understand why my horse stands at the top of her very large field away from the other horses and is being very difficult to bring in,rearing, bucking etc, I am thinking now its the gas banger which goes off every 15 minutes (3 bangs per 15 minutes).in a nearby field. Its really upset her and doesn't seem to be getting used to it even though the other horses take no notice.Any ideas? I have thought about cottonwool in her ears?

becareful, it can be a bloody nightmare to get out, think some people tie string round, but cotton wool can lose bits, that would be bad down an ear, think you want something less fall to bits. my horse got used to the gas banger, how long has it been going off?

I'd be surprised if she didn't get used to it quite soon...

She'll get used to it. I was terrified when the farmer next to us put one right by our fence, I thought the foals would go through the fence and all sorts but all that happened was that after a couple of days of jumping a bit it was just another tick on the "spook-busting" list I was grateful for it in the end!

We have them, my boy got used to it quickly, which is just as well as they are all round the fields we hack around...

Also, cotton wool is very bad at reducing the level of sound. I think it'd be unlikely to work with such a loud sound. A stray bit in the ear could cause problems and infection.

Jasmine took a while to get used to them, but it did happen eventually. Now she rarely reacts to the local farmer shooting his ten bore shotgun randomly, and that is bliddy loud!! I inadvertantly rode Blaze right next to one, a few years ago, and it went off just as we walked past! All she did was casually flick an ear towards it, the feet didn't move ;D If it had been Jas she would have catapulted me into next week ;D
