I think most people, before they even learn to ride imagine building up a relationship with a horse, having a close bond and friendship with it and then working with it to achieve their dreams of what they actually want out of their horse and horse riding and then working within the horses capability to achieve this Then they go to a riding school are taught how to sit on a horse and what to do with their legs and hands If they are lucky they are taught to tack up and general horse management. They then buy a horse and realise they can't actually ride because the horse they have bought has an intelligent mind of its own and has needs that they are not being met or understood by the new owner Then those that care about their horse and really want it to work explore other methods ;D Really IH needs to start right at the very beginning when an interest n a horse is first shown. Although I don't actually think anything I've said answers the original question asked ;D

IH helped me last week when I hacked out from my new house. I had to cross a wooden bridge, railway bridge and railway track painted bright yellow. My TB mare walked straight over all of these without blinking, as she has learnt to walk over all sorts of surfaces when I have been training her. That day the training really paid off ;D
