Thanks laurak for the offer of petrol money if this happens then any contribution would be great as we're over 4 hours away from hopefully her New home. Iv pm my contact details to womenofgoth so when Iv spoken to her and she's still ok to have the mare then Ill ring the owners brother to hopefully stop the hunt coming. Keep all your fingers and toes crossed for her

Sorry to hear it didn't work out, but at least now she is at peace and cannot suffer again. RIP old lass, karma will win out in the end xx

Its taken me a day to calm down enough to type here. I am so upset, how callous and cruel, what kind of person could do that, use and animal breeding god knows how many foals from her and then just kill her when she isn't of any use to him anymore. Karma will surely catch up with him if it hasnt done so already.
rip gorgeous lady, hope you have found peace

very sad to hear this, some people just treat animals as a machine whether its competing, racing or breeding and when they cant do that any more they are disposed of

I'm sorry this has upset you and I'm not posting this to cause further distress but I think a reality check is needed here.
I think using language like "killing her" and "disposing of her" is a bit OTT. Would you say that to someone on the Rainbow Bridge thread? She's been prevented from any more suffering and this was the only way that could be guaranteed. Without knowing the mare none of us could know if she was poor because she was ill and suffering and you can't always fix an old horse.
WoG may know the mare was being offered a good home but the owner doesn't know her at all so how could he know if that were actually a kind decision or just palming her off to someone else? For all the owner knew WoG might have tried to breed from her again, or tried to ride her, or just sold her on for profit. If he'd given her to someone none of you knew would that have made you happy? probably not, I imagine this thread would then have been about how the owner had heartlessly palmed her off to an uncertain future.
Perhaps instead of condemning the owner we should be thankful that the mare can now rest in peace and is free from any more suffering.

The owner didn't know that I had had an offer of a home, as I said in my thread there was no point in telling him untill I had sorted it all out. Then I have no doubt in my mind that he would have passed her over to me, he's done it before and it would have saved him on the cost of the hunt!! This was all about him saving money, he said as much. He had seen this mare for weeks like we found her and had done nothing. It wasn't until I made a fuss and took her out from the others that he decided to put her to sleep rather than get the vet out, or even the farrior who she hasn't seen for years. So please don't give him any sympathy. Thank you again womenofgoth you have no idea how it felt when I saw your offer of a home and your home looked perfect. I'm sorry you were upset, it probably didn't help with me picking up the phone blubbering when you called ,but please don't be put of.

I'm not offering him sympathy, I was merely trying to point out there could have be much worse fates for this mare.
