lol, this int just me going daft, even though get your violins out ive got man flu aaaaagain, ;D Now once upon a time id have ridden anything equine ;D been able to sit just about everything but for the last ? mm 3 years my reflexes are zilch , ditto, nada which does not bode well for having 2 young strapping wb x tb s to bring on, and one of the reasons i stick to pre-training clients horses, i took fleur for a wee hack on the rds early this week pre-man flu and she coughed and i was right over the top of her lugs, whats going on , how can i get some of my sickabilty back , im also considering an event saddle ,for getting them both going in , my seat is purely dressage/ish , i want my arm chair back boo hoo ,

hehe well on the IH christmas DVD there was a v interesting bit on fittness, with an exersize ball- you can balance on it with your legs and hands, and apparently it trains your reflexes. I'm trying it as soon as i get an exersize ball- but watch the exersize bit of the DVD, maybe it will help xx hope this helps, and good luck with your youngsters, have fun with them

You need to sit on a few loonies Jen, that'll get your reflexes back I'll bring Jos across, and you can practice on him rushing from bit of grass to next bit of grass, at canter, while dropping head to eat ;-)

jen - on a serious note have you tried just putting a full sheep skin over the saddle? In the distant past when I had to ride on nasty saddles that made me so sore reaction time was more flinch ouch time a nice thick sheepskin did the trick for the distances we were made to ride

Or one of those basket saddles that the aristocracy used to use to strap their kids onto a pony, lol ;D I know what you mean though! I haven't lost my bottle at all and still think I can jump anything/ ride loonies/ gallop round the countryside, but Jas has nearly had me off on quite a few occasions ;D she did five huge flybucks in a row in the warm up area of a showground and by the fifth I was definitely heading south! Only grim determination not to fall off in front of Blaze's previous (nasty ) owners kept me in that saddle ;D (that and the c**p strap I had sensibly attached to the D rings ;D ) Youngsters eh? I should really stick to my nice, safe fat coblet, but I like to live dangerously ;D ;D

If you are physically fit, it sounds like your mental reflexes are slower than they used to be. I have found my judo classes brilliant for promoting quick thinking and quick physical reactions. At the same time they work on your fitness, balance, core strength and most importantly, your ability to fall well! Give it a try, they are punishing classes but well worth it. For some weird reason, I quite enjoy sailing through the air, it's very good fun!

I love event saddles Jen as they to me are the true GP and with a nice knee roll to stick yourself into a sudden jolt, ideal for jumpy horses. You don't need me to remind you that it's all in the lower leg to stay on. With my heels down, I'm a piece of Lego snapped on there.

Did you see the IH Christmas DVD? You don't just sit on the excercise ball, you kneel over it then lift one arm and one leg eventually, before standing on it and doing a golf swing!

Oh gawd, my mental reflexes are going then! ;D I watched the IH dvd, think I'd be too scared to stand on the ball, I'd land on my face! And at my age, that's not a good move ;D
