QuickClot, Coban bandages, sudacrem, ambulance large bandages, wound powder, gamgee, saline spray, suncream, midgy lotions. Yellow fly cream (used to keep flys off wounds) used for cows & works for horses, dog non sting Tea tree shampoo and horse mite lotion. Scissors & vet number.
For those with Iodine it stings like hell I wouldn't use it, there are kinder non sting options out there.

Vetwrap, gamgee. Animalintex, babies nappies (make great hoof poultices, wrap round and duct tape them on) Bute, Danilon, Sudocrem, various essential oils, wound powder, disinfectant, various sweet itch remedies, louse powder (just in case) mud fever powder, thermometer (digital) one of those little 'stitch snipper' gadgets (pilfered from work, naughty!) a torch, horse first aid book, surgical gloves (work again, we have MILLIONS!) ummmmmm?? sure there's loads more (it's in a huge 84 litre plastic box) ;D ;D Funny thing is, my girls are really hardy (touches wood frantically!) but It is available to anyone on the yard, as long as they replace anything used up. Am I a bit anal?? Or just well prepared, lol ;D

Great thread cause I am currently putting together a medical kit for Lady.
I currently have the essentials which include hibiscrub, wound spray, animalitex, vet wrap, gloves, kool pack and dressing pads.
My wish list which I will get slowly includes, nappies, duct tape, gamgee and anti bacterial wipes.
It might sound over kill for a hardy cob but I'd rather have it in case, than not have it at all.

Gaffer tape, all the usual bandages etc, avoid cotton wool like the plague as it sheds into wounds, buy vet wrap by the box, clean and clear cough stuff (works for me too - in fact I've never actually got round to using on a horse yet and I've had it years, probably out of date by now) witch hazel and arnica gel, golden eye or brolene ointment, that spray on plaster stuff (can't remember the name), tea tree spray, aloe vera gel, equimins MSM cream, mars bar.
All in a big plastic box, with an ex detergent tablets box for the small stuff like safety pins, scissors, tweezers and melolin to make sure they don't get lost.
Jen1, the best I can do for water is a sealed bottle from Sainsbury's where do you get sterile water pods, I've asked everywhere and no-one seems to keep them?
Oh and a torch.

Im amazed by the number of you who have wound powder! That stuff is vile I vividly remember the vet who did the wounds lecture on the vets on tour thing saying how much they hate it lol I have saline spray, to clean with, cotton squares for absorption, gloves, vet wrap, tape, lavender and teatree oil and alo vera. Forgot silvetrasol! Use it on everything but eyes

I have to say I don't use wound powder at all. I was always suspicious of it, I worked for a dealer once who had black wound powder which seemed to me inherently dodgy for some reason known only to me. Something to do with the fact that he said it made the wound less obvious I imagine.
It goes along with Savlon cream as the popular work of the devil. I once had to go through every first aid box on our site and remove the Savlon cream after it was outlawed by the Red Cross, problem was I had to do it regularly after that, as it kept creeping back in....there has to be something wrong with tubes of cream that can walk by themselves, after all no-one ever saw them arrive..

well on our yard we have a general use one for all the liveries which (I think, I've never had to use it! *touch wood*) contains stuff like vet wrap, gamgee, duct tape, scissons etc. And in my box i've got purple spray, lavendar oil, mud fever stuff and wound powder. I've used the purple spray a couple of times on less serious injuries such as general scrapes they get in the field and something i expect was from a kick but never any of the other stuff *touch wood*

I'm another one who wont use cotton wool to clean a wound. Much prefer wipes or a good old fashioned towl. I know it will need washing but you end up with no bits stuck in the wound you have to try and get out without making it bleed again.

Why is savlon cream evil...I use it for myself?? I have - Equipalazone, Danillon, Arnica tabs and gel, Echinatea tabs and powder, Piriton (for me!), Aloe gel and spray, Germoline, Cleantrax, soaking boot, Gamgee, animalintex, vetwrap, nappies, a few hardy carriers (for poulticing), HUGE ticktape (best stuff EVER!), various wound dressing type things (maybe aquired from a hospital ), a few tubes of Magic calmer, tube of Sedalin, Like Ice, Variety of Red Horse products, Ice packs (well they are in the freezer at home but still part of first aid), epsom salts, scissors... think thats it??

Oh, no idea, something along the lines of once it was open then it became a breeding ground for germs and you don't want to smear germs into an open wound. Quite how the germs survived in the tube when it was full of anti germ chemicals is a mystery to me, I don't think they are against germ creams per se just the notion of contamination from multiple users. But it went out of fashion for first aid kits, certainly in the workplace, and I'm not sure if it ever returned?
I haven't done a course in years, perhaps someone can expand?
