ergh I think I could do it if the animal was injured but not if it was healthy - thats what would destroy me. I understand your point, but I do think there comes a point when it is the kindest option. We've all seen adverts for the old dogs no one wants, who've been in the kennels for months or even years... judging by what my dog thought of being in a kennel I can't imagine it's a nice or fuilfilling life for an old dog who's used to a nice comfy home to live its days out in a kennels.

yep I can see where you're coming from - I just dont know if I could be the one to pull the trigger...
My sister is a last yr vet student and she said the ones they tend to pts are the ones with behavioural issues or who have been in kennels for a long time and are so messed up by the experience that they wouldnt get rehomed.

Oh yes I agree, actually being the one doing it is another matter, not sure if I could be the one to do it....
Would be more likely to end up filling my house with lots of animals I had no idea what to do with!

exactly. I would be the same. Think im going to have to be one of those who buries their head in the sand and tries to forget these things happen and just look after my own as best I can = /
I wont donate to the RSPCA in future either after the things i have found on the internet about the rspca = (

I don't think vets particularly like that part of their job, but they know they are doing the best for the individual animal. And having spoken to a vet receptionist/nurse, she said that they put down a large amount of animals.
I think that as an RSPCA officer it wouldn't be a frequent or large amount of the job. Just that you know how to do it correctly so you can minimise the stress and suffering for the animal.

It does make my blood run cold at the thought of healthy animals being put to sleep but I dont blame the RSPCA for that, I blame the idiot who chucked their dog out for whatever reason, or the puppy farmers etc etc. I don't really have a strong opinion of the RSPCA either way but I know that if I joined them it would be to help to stop euthanising healthy animals. Stop the idiots from causing the problems, go back to the root cause. When it comes to animals I am as soppy as they come....... but I imagine that the good days and positive experiences would far out way the bad, euthanising any animal I would imagine would be such a small part of your yearly work. That said though, it might just be a company full of corporate bureaucracy, I guess you'll never now unless you join them. If the job sounds perfect to you then why not try it, if you dont like it, then you've not lost much you can search for something else.

I don't blame you, I know I couldn't put a healthy animal to sleep, purely because no one wants it. So so sad. People need to stop breeding unwanted animals.
