Went out for our first hack today seeing as the thaw is here. I thought the best plan would be to ride Orie (calm sensible trustworthy) and lead Holly (lovely but unpredicatble) just go round the roads for a brisk walk to get them out and about again. All was going wonderfully until we met a white sign! I mean really of all the things to leave lying about the country side you'd think we had come across a cow doing algebra in high heels What did my calm sesnsible little pony do- canter sideways down the road! and Holly, well she followed us looking rather confused as to what all the fuss was about. Just keeping me on my toes I guess

opps lol! they do like to remind us they have a mind of their own from time to time. Toffee did something fairly similar was we were plodding back to the yard, normally she is totally un bothered by any traffic, she could have a massive helicopter flying directly over her and she wouldnt bat an eye lid, or a lorry go past so close it touches the stirrups and not blink. But she took extreme offense to 2 tractors behind us and cantered down the main road, me being stoopid was only holding the buckle so had reins up to my ears opps! we dashed into the yard gate way as the tractors let us go ahead and she continued to shy at it like a loon! never done it before or since! daft mare lol!

Yep...had a similar experience just before Christamas (the day we got the snow again in fact) I was wandering along on Crystal, and I spotted a giant inflatable waving santa, complete with noisy generator running, and thought she would freak out....no, she walked past it perfectly...both ways, and then on the way back she spotted the Ninja Granny with two walking sticks....talk about total pillock! Head up, ears forwards, snorting like a steam train, and cantering sideways at walking pace over the opposite side of the road! Friends 4yo Fell was totally unconcerned and walked past calm as.....Crystal is 20 YEARS older!
You'd think she'd grown a brain cell by now!

Gosh you lot are making me laugh. Star took great offense to a small wind generator in middle of a farm field 1/2 mile away, and was dancing about in any direction but forward. In the end I had to get off, and back her up 1/2 mile up the track as she kept trying to barge in hand quickly past this object. Meanwhile our riding companion, Ull-mi was looking at us with amazement. She took a long and shrewd look at the object of Star's alarm, and realised it was not moving and was stuck to the ground, so no danger of getting near them. Ull-mi is too intelligent to waste far valuable energy, think first, digest, and if need be speed up just a little, maybe trot, nah, too much effort being scared you know !

Lol!! Yeah I had a similar one too on my old pony. Walking happily along usually nothing bothers my pony. Trains going overhead, tractors, combine harvesters, birds flying up in front of us, no problem!! but then aero just noticed his shadow and had a complete fit about it you would think it was a dragon at least!!! and obviously because it was following him it was VERY scary!! As soon as we got back to the yard and went through the gate, we were fine!! just goes to show that not all horses are as smart as they are made out to be!!!

And another one. I've a 14 year old been-there-done-it advanced endurance horse. And an 8 year old green as anything. Give you one guess which one has been sensible this week and which one has been a pillock....

Walked one of my NF 2 year olds home from the field for the first time, to mow the lawn on Monday. He's big, bold and confident, little phases him, so never gave any thought to having to go over the bypass on the bridge. He spooked at a car going underneath, knocked me over and I now have a badly bruised knee. OUCH!!! (Thought of you, Trouble, but thankfully mines just bruised).
Obviously he needs work on going over bridges, but I'm not in a fit state to do it at the moment! BOTHER!!!
