When towelling dry, use the towel in a sweeping movement over the hair the way it grows, like a dandy or body brush, this takes the water from the coat. If done in a circular rubbing motion it will jsut rub water into the skin.
Think positive with her, she may not hate it or you for doing it, she may enjoy it.
If there is any hay left in the net when you finish, burn it incase the lice move from her as you wet her, to the hay. ( i know its expensive, but maybe put small amounts in at a time)
Maybe wash the loins area last to avoid her getting cold quicker.
Sorry if i am suggesting things you already know.

thanks for that TT, i would have been rubbing her round in circles yeh il only put a bit of hay in at a time, it does take her a while to eat it anyway. Il stop top end and work down, i think thats the area she would be less happy with anyway, so by time get to middle and back end she wont be so bothered. Interesting about the flea shampoo, i might just get some of that too!

Awww poor Toffee. I've no advice to add but don't feel embarrassed or bad, horses get lice, especially fluffy, furry ones. If my Shetlands have them they aren't bothering them atm.

Hello, poor you and poor toffee ..... Lice are an absolute pain in the bleeding arse to get rid of, it does come down to elbow grease !!! Deosect is good, make sure you really rub it into the coat with gloves on, and do the head/forelock/ears/armpits as thats where the lil buggers go to escape !!! I also got Switch on prescription from the vets, its a spot on for horses (like frontline for dogs/cats), and it`s good stuff too. Both Deosect and Switch have Permethrin as their active ingredient, it is the only thing that actually kills the lice. All the louse powder does is repel lice, and it doesn`t do it very well i found. What size rug is Toffee ? I bought mine fleece coolers (cheap from ebay, got 2 lots for each ned) these act as a liner and after each application of Deosect OR switch (use one or the other or you`ll overdose the neds on Permethrin, which can be dangerous) and each new application, i put a clean fresh liner fleece on under the main rugs, and bring the other fleece home to wash ... coz washing rugs kills the little beggers too ... A lot of launderettes will now wash horse fleece rugs .. ours do ;D This is the Switch stuff: www.hyperdrug.co.uk/Switch-250ml/productinfo/SWITCH/Nothing in the world kills the eggs though, so you have to break the cycle of egg/young/adult this normally takes about 4 - 6 weeks ..... But the eggs can live/stay on anything ... Like field shelters, gate posts (where the neds have been scratching), bedding, rugs and all grooming kit ..... Did i mention they were a pain in the fricking arse ? I did field shelters/gates, gate posts, anywhere neds might have scratched/brushed/rubbed, with a correctly diluted solution spray of Deosect, (i used a plant waterer sprayer from the garden centre lol). I also soaked the brushes in this solution in an old tupperware container .... then rinsed thouroughly with hot/boiling water afetr each use. For Rugs and bedding i`ve used Battles Louse powder ... www.hyperdrug.co.uk/prodinfo.asp?number=LOUSEBAT750&variation=It actually has Permethrin in it and is for use on "equipment" only, you can`t use it on the neds ..... and the rugs you treat with it, you MUST keep off your ned for 3 weeks ........... ! For the first 4 weeks i treated them once a week with the Switch pour on (every saturday), and i changed and washed fleeces each time, the 5th week i did them all over with the deosect .... after this you have to leave a MINIMUM of 2 weeks before doing anything permethrin based again. And yes ... the Dermoline shampoo is great for doing Armpits/under chins/between back legs and forelock area`s to help keep them at bay x

Well got some more pour on stuff from the vets and did the other 3. Inspected them and combed them with nit comb and i didnt find a single louse or egg!!?? Nit combed toffee today and the adults that came off were all dead. Got enough to repeat again in 2 weeks which was what vet recommended, and i think i may have enough to repeat it 2 weeks after that aswell. Everything that can be washed has been washed in bio liquid and dermoline shampoo. Will be changing rugs when other ones arrive and scrubbing the other ones.
Definetly going to be more vigilant, or maybe the word is obsessed in the future!
Im never going to create a louse sterile environment but il try lol!
