I also cannot believe he was deliberately asking the horse for rolkur. But what is sad is the heavy hands as when we saw him he was saying how you NEVER move your hands back, only up. We all make mistakes, and if he had come out with an explanation, and even an apology explaining why what he did is detrimental. But I believe he hasn't, in fact he thinks he has done nothing wrong, which is worrying. I don't believe for one moment though that his lecture will be pro rolkur, and there is a lot to learn from him. So don't dismiss his knowledge out of hand. We are also going up again in September for the lecture and believe he has added new information - should be interesting!

I think there is quite a lot of politics behind this. Its easy to take photos of a point in time where the horse looks bad and its easy to take photos of a point in time when the horse looks good. I'd guess this is a difficult horse that tends to duck behind the bit and Mr Heuschmann is a vet and not a professional rider. Maybe someone is trying to show him in a bad light and succeeding quite well. Maybe he was naive to do the demo with that horse. I don't think one set of photos makes him a bad person. I think there was some ulterior motive behind this set of photos, and it has been pretty successful, which I think is a shame, because the guy's heart is in the right place and he talks a lot of sense, even if he makes mistakes sometimes.

I was not at all impressed with his riding last year at the conference here, June. I had to be led away gibbering at some points, especially when he simply didnt recognise when the horse was being blocked by the rider. I loved the lecture the day before, but felt he would have been much better not doing a ridden clinic. He has alienated a lot of people of late. He no longer even speaks to Anja Beran, quite why, she has no idea. He never mentions her by name, even in his lecture, he just referred to her as a 'French classical yard but in Bavaria' or something similar, he has fallen out big time, and very publicly with Philippe Karl, and this does not do his image any good. Not listening to the wisdom of a great trainer such as Balkenhol is foolish in the extreme. I have felt for some time that his ego had gotten the better of him, sad to say. A friend of mine has recently become quite famous, and I cannot believe the change in her personality. She is no longer the person I knew, and I am shocked to the core to see what fame can do to an otherwise rather shy and introverted person! And none of it, for the better, I might add! Heather

Let's hope he gets his act together again then. He did have some worthwhile things to say.

i found the pictures uncomfortable to look at the horse looks tense, flat and im not sure what he is trying to achieve in this way. My mare will start off like this tense nervy trying to evade but i dont haul her in or seemingly fight her like that,if i did i would be on the floor. i can get a better outline with my horses and im an awfully novice rider and i dont ride like that. if he was demonstrating how not to do it then i would agree. it is a shame if thats not the case as i thought he was against rolkur and what he says about mechanics etc made sense to me..... il stick with Heather and Anja Beran thank you very much

But there is ducking behind the bit with a loose rein and pulling it with a tight rein. Sadly in the photos it looks to be latter.
I wondered about Anja - sad for her.
