OOh she has got quite a few, hasn't she? Very attractive though Jasmine hasn't got that many but she's only 3 so plenty of time yet!! Funny thing is she has no white markings on her whatsoever apart from 'few white hairs', as it says on her passport, where a star would be, other than that, jet black. Mum was the same but had a proper white star, but no white hairs on her body. When Jas was born she looked like a donkey foal in colour (sort of silvery tinge) and had huge fluffy ears! I was momentarily worried cos we didn't know what Dad was as Mum was rescued, but she's gorgeous now. Not that donkeys aren't That's quite a difference in her age isn't it Mandal? But much better to find out they're younger rather than older eh? She has a lovely head xx Looks as if she's about to wee in the pic!

She has a lovely head xx Looks as if she's about to wee in the pic! yes, she has a funny shaped body, very deep heart girth and blown belly! This is much improved over the years though, and a lovely face! OH took that pic, he has a knack for catching the most ungainly (post wee) moments!

Neets has white hairs very sparsley flecked thro remains of winter coat....... she's rising 7 and has always had this.. genetically her dad is CB so very very Bay but mum was a chestnut tb... so think it would come from her mums side... her winter coat is a lot darker than her summer.. winter is a rich dark red bay.. kind of dark rum coloured.. whilst summer is light red bay... her dad is a golden bay in summer.. quiet light but not fadded and very glowing ... think the white flecking is generally quite common and not always down to mineral difficiencies.

Thing is I've no idea of her parentage Zuzan. I have a feeling it is her coat changing as none of my others have this greying which if it were a deficiency or similar I would expect some evidence on at least some of the others. Her winter coat had no white hairs, it's her summer coat where I've noticed some in previous years but this year as her coat is coming through it is very marked. I had never seen this in a bay horse before so was puzzled.

are us sure it's not her under coat.... Neets has different layers of coat .. very long outer coat and then a more fluffy shorter undercoat.. this is where the white hairs occur.

I don't think so Zuzan. Sophie has a thin coat even in winter but I'll see how it is when she's finished moulting. It does seem to be her summer coat.

Do you have a picture of her tail at all, taken from behind?

Thanks Mandal!
The back photo is interesting, and not what I expected to see! I would be incredibly surprised to learn that your horse carried grey, sabino or pangere, looking at the pics. I was thinking that rabicano was most likely, until I saw the picture of the tail. Usually if they have rabicano, they have some white hairs in the base of the tail - and I don't see any. I still think out of the options I gave, it is the most likely. I'm trying to think what other reasons there could be!

Those splodges are nice domane, has he always had them? Um.... he's my new loan horse, mandal (7 weeks). He's 11 now and his true owner has had him since 8 and says that every summer he seems to get more of them

Thanks varkie. She has no white hairs in mane or tails at all. I did a search and rabicano seemed to fit her the closest. Yes domane, Sophies white hairs are getting more numerous it seems especially this year.
