Oh - Tangle has almost 2" of true Welsh winter fluff - I won't say the mark is clear lol! but it is definitely still very visible as a 'brand'/mark of some kind, and the letters are readable if you look properly. Jay faffed around so much her Y is a bit unclear - it looks halfway like a grey's bald freezemark, so I guess the iron got left on a bit too long. But again, still clear/readable (both summer and winter coat for her - she's an arab - and she tends to be clipped out in winter anyway)

Which company: Farmkey
Location (ie town):Nr Winchester
Date marked:summer 2008
Yes/No & marks out of 10 for the following. Give details if 'No': Were the arrangements made promptly & efficiently? Yes
Were you provided with enough information regarding the process? Yes
Was your horse handled politely, respectfully, and competently? Yes very efficient and calm
Was the operative polite and respectful to you. She was great, another endurance rider and gave me loads of advise
Any other comments. Orie is cream so was supposed to have a bald mark. The first time it didn't work at all so I got her out again and she held the brands of for 2 mins each again. It still hasn't worked. I haven't contacted them again as she said if the 2nd time didn't work he would have to be double branded where they have 2 sets of irons and they go on for 2 mins each so thats 4 mins per letter. Not sure I want to put him through that.
Would you be prepared for the company to contact you and discuss? Yes any time.

Thanks for posting this, very interesting and reassuring to me as a freezemark virgin. I don't much like the idea of Talin having a bald patch but it would be better than him being stolen. Can you still show them if they're freezemarked?

Yes/No & marks out of 10 for the following. Give details if 'No':
Were the arrangements made promptly & efficiently? 3/10 Time of appointment changed at least 6 times!!
Were you provided with enough information regarding the process? 5/10
Was your horse handled politely, respectfully, and competently?
5/10 Yes, until she wanted to twitch one of them because his mark was on his hind quarters, I asked her to try without a twitch and after a bit of discussion she did do it without.. he stood there like a rock, phew!! (I don't like needless twitching, which it would have been if I hadn't asked her not to!!!!)
Was the operative polite and respectful to you. Erm Yeah.. Not exactly friendly.. but polite enough!!
Any other comments.
Would you be prepared for the company to contact you and discuss? Yep

michellep - freezemarks have no effect on showing. If a freezemarked horse doesn't win, it wasn't good enough!!! Thanks K8 - good (as in useful) feedback. I can see why operatives have to be careful. All very well an owner saying 'her doesn't kick' but if you are the one standing there pressing a cold iron to a large rump of a completely strange horse...... ;-) Glad she agreed to do without twitch though.

I can finally add to this as Red was freezemarked on Wednesday. Which company: Farmkey Location (ie town): Near Leatherhead, Surrey Date marked: 24th March 2010 Yes/No & marks out of 10 for the following. Give details if 'No': Were the arrangements made promptly & efficiently? Yes 10/10 Were you provided with enough information regarding the process? Yes 10/10 (lots of information on their website as well) Was your horse handled politely, respectfully, and competently? Yes 10/10 Was the operative polite and respectful to you. Yes 10/10 Any other comments. This was the first time i had ever had it done so i was a bit nervous about the whole thing. I was however amazed at how easy and quick the whole process was. I decided not to sedate as i know Red is good with the clippers and decided to distract him with a lick treat instead. He hardly even noticed the markers going on his back, he just moved over slightly when the second one was applied. After that stood there good as gold. I am very glad that i did it and now he is more protected. Would you be prepared for the company to contact you and discuss? Yes

Which company: Freezemark
Location (ie town): Near East Grinstead
Date marked: 21 Feb 2011
Yes/No & marks out of 10 for the following. Give details if 'No':
Were the arrangements made promptly & efficiently? 5/10 Sort of, I'm not altogether impressed that I had to book it and then wait for them to allocate a date and time. Despite asking for a weekend day I ended up having it done on Monday morning and having to take time off work.
Were you provided with enough information regarding the process? 10/10 yes
Was your horse handled politely, respectfully, and competently? 10/10 yes
Was the operative polite and respectful to you. 10/10 yes
Any other comments. I made sure when booking that they were willing to do my horse in the riding paddock as he tends to over react when in a confined space. Whent he lady arrived I had to be quite firm with her to insist I was not going to bring him up to the yard or use a stable.
I was worried my horse would really react badly but his reaction was really just like it was a little annoying or tickly, it didn't worry him enough to stop him eating his pony nuts!

Had another 8 done recently so thought I'd do an update
Which company: Farmkey
Location (ie town): Shillington (nr Hitchin)
Date marked: Oct 2010
Yes/No & marks out of 10 for the following. Give details if 'No':
Were the arrangements made promptly & efficiently? Yes. 10/10 Much better service than the last time I had horses freezemarked where it took several phone calls and I still had to call to find out the time the day before.
Were you provided with enough information regarding the process? 10/10 yes
Was your horse handled politely, respectfully, and competently? 10/10 yes
Was the operative polite and respectful to you. 10/10 yes
Any other comments. The person doing the freezemarking was very good with the horses. She was calm and matter of fact about the process, used her thumb to press the area before the iron went on so the horse was already used to the pressure, suggested having some treats handy as a distraction and allowed the horses to walk around if they felt the need to move. None of the horses had an issue with the marking.

Just saw this thread...
Which company: Farmkey Location (ie town): Reading Date marked: Nov 2010
Yes/No & marks out of 10 for the following. Give details if 'No':
Were the arrangements made promptly & efficiently? Yes. Got a weekend day, but had to wait 3 weeks for the appointment.
Were you provided with enough information regarding the process? Yes 10/10
Was your horse handled politely, respectfully, and competently? Yes 10/10
Was the operative polite and respectful to you. Yes 10/10
Any other comments. I have a pretty chilled pony, but he got very upset during the procedure (lots of pawing, a few attempts to go up). If I had to do it again, I'd sedate him.

Which company: Freezemark
Location (ie town): Swindon
Date marked: 10th December 2011
Yes/No & marks out of 10 for the following. Give details if 'No':
Were the arrangements made promptly & efficiently? Yes 10/10- Only had to wait 2-3 weeks for the appointment and got a Saturday.
Were you provided with enough information regarding the process? Yes 10/10- Because I was unsure about the process, I emailed Mary and she gave me plenty of information.
Was your horse handled politely, respectfully, and competently? Yes 8/10- The woman had van trouble and I think she was in a bit of a rush. Lady is usually fine with things if you take a bit of time but the woman seemed to just want it done. I know they can't wait around forever but I'm talking a few minutes.
Was the operative polite and respectful to you. Yes 10/10
Any other comments. This was the first time I had seen a freezemark. Lady was a bit fidgety with the third one but otherwise was ok.
