Shot off startled by something, then ran on quite a way, but followed a group of teenagers (boys 14-16), and eventually followed one home, standing around outside a house around evening, wet and cold. Also seeing her on a common, looks like fairly modern houses, ending in a walk with posts with dog poo boxes on them, woodland on left as you go into it, more open on right, houses with open lawns on front and side on the last one, before you get into this area. Quite a big area populated frequently by dog walkers. Still people focussed and will go to someone who calls her (good sign as some dogs go feral quite quickly.) Energy levels high. Have Dog Lost been informed? www.doglost.co.uk

Thanks Catrin, that sounds exactly (to the 'T') like the area where she was lost. We're setting up a search party again for the morning......

Seems to be under trees shrubs, though the trees are bare the shrubs are green some of them up to seven feet high and sprawling quite wide, so plenty of room underneath to shelter. She complains that it is raining and the rabbits are hiding (she has tried to catch some to eat, rather oddly without success as she 'plays' with them as if it were a game.) She has eaten some turkey sandwiches and doesn't seem too hungry. If there are children around tomorrow, especially any with food, she will target them and they or the adults with them, will hopefully realise she is lost.

Has your friend spoken to the Dog Warden? Might also be worth speaking to the police - there is some gypsy activity round Wickford. A pedigree dog might be a target for theft, but a routine police visit might discover her. If it were my dog, I would make up flyers with the dogs picture on and take them to the police station so the beat officers attention is brought to it. Fortunately, the dog is a distinctive and uncommon breed.
Also, might be worth asking Essex Horse and Pony Protection Society (near Pitsea railway station) to keep an eye out for her. When I used to work there, we had a lot of contact with the gypsies. I doubt that has changed over the years.

Have sent link to the DogsLost pic to a load of rescue contacts on Facebook, one of whom is a dog warden quite near.

Hope you find him soon. You are in my old haunt. I used to live down Bruce Grove, Shotgate! (Now coming to a quarter of a century in North Waes. Wouldn't move back for toffee!)
I used to walk my Irish Red Setter in the Memorial Park and got shot at with an airgun three times once as I walked along the river. Luckily they missed!
