Can't see the vid as work won't allow me - but to be honest not sure I want to see it!!... There is a photo here. epona.tv/uk/news/show/artikel/blue-tongues-at-world-cup-qualifier/?tx_ttnews[backPid]=388&cHash=563648c137 It is so distressing that I kept waking last night and had all the horses who are being subjected to this torment on my mind. I don't want to make unfounded accusations against the Polish rider who withdrew, but I did wonder if her horse biting its tongue, might have been due to similar brutal riding. MTA to add the link!

I've always felt that dressage is meant to be beautiful, a horse and rider dancing together. This most definitely is not. I would rather not ride a horse if this is what it meant. Thankfully most people do not abuse their horses in this way, but it is disgraceful to see abuse such as this accepted as part of the job on what is supposed to be the top level of dressage. The win is obviously far more important than the horse.

That is just horrible. Really really vile.
We need another 'Black Beauty'.
Poor Tracey Emin! Her unmade bed never subjected any animal to cruelty! Conceptual art is a wholly different subject!

My sister has had an email from a well known US trainer asking for her support in this Heather so people are acting on spreading the word! I've thought for a while it's time Panorama got involved in horse training in general and have actually drafted three emails to them but never had the guts to send them! Perhaps some of you very competent/knowledgeable writers might think this is a good way to go as well?

Great idea! Here is the reply i received from BD....
Dear Portia
Thank you for your e-mail. British Dressage sets clear welfare guidelines that place the health and wellbeing of the horse as top priority in its dressage competition at all times. Any incident that manifests in distress of a horse or pony, whether caused by the rider or external factors is deemed abuse and will be dealt with under BD rules.
As the horse and rider depicted in the warm up video clip from the World Cup dressage qualifier in Odense , Denmark is not a British national and is competing in another country under FEI rules British Dressage has no direct jurisdiction on this matter. It is being dealt with by the FEI who will be issuing an official statement on the subject shortly. We will be happy to pass this on to interested parties as soon as we receive it.

Well I've written the most emails on this I've ever written on one subject. Like Catrin the images have been haunting me. Panorama too have one of my old more reasoned drafts with this story added... I probably haven't put it well enough but hopefully they may look into it when they see the video. I mentioned your name Heather as a knowledgeable, informed and experienced proffessional to contact for research...

To Whom it may concern,
I would like to express my dismay regarding Sweden's Patrik Kittel finished third with Watermill Scandic HBC on a score of 76.250. I have seen the ' blue tongue warm up video' and am horrified that officials, students and infact the rider himself could have seen this as acceptable practice in this or in fact any dicipline!!! I am appalled that this is what young dressage riders are to aspire to... and how we should be treating and training our horses in top level competition to overbend, not breath and dominate.... Is this what it is all about abusing our relationship with the horse for financial gain and winnings....? I feel that the FEI, judges and stewards have deeply let down the welfare of competition horses and infact horses and charities that try to help them with abuse all over the world by not only deeming this acceptable riding and training practice, but rewarding it.
yours faithfully
(email.... feel free to forward...)
