Take care with abscesses. I lost my lovely percheron mare in September. The abscess although opened up and polticed somehow got into her system and despite the veterinary hospitals valiant attempts to save her she sadly had to be put down. The foal she was carrying was also sadly lost. My other retired horse has had numerous abscesses in his lifetime (a flat footed TBx) and most have burst through the coronet band, instant relief. Good luck to all owners of horses with foot abscesses.
