The brakes on my old ifor williams horse trailer has seized. While my OH has adjusted the brakes, we need to get the hub off to have a good look. I have been having problems with undoing the nut to get the hub off to get at the brakes. The nut won't move at all. What tools do you recommend to get the nut off? My OH has tried using an adjustable spanner, but the biggest size was a 36 open end spanner that wasn't big enough. Does anyone know what tool is needed to get if off? Thanks

I would have thought a socket would have been better than a spanner, a gentle tap all round with a hammer, some WD40. If it doesn't have to be done today, most tyre places would probably help. Just be careful you don't take the corners off the nut. A lorry firm might have a socket big enough, not the sort of thing an average horse trailer owner would have.

Thanks Barbararob, I forgot to mention he doesn't have a socket size big enough. We went to halfords but didn't have a big enough size. Does anyone know what size is needed?
Its ok at the moment, we will try a tyre/lorry place to see

Why not ring IW and ask them? In my experience they are very helpful - they sorted me a hitchlock even though the first one was the wrong one, and my trailer was pretty much into its second decade by then.
