Hello,
Has anybody heard of the Godsworthy dartmoor hill ponies? If so can you give us details of what they're like, temperament, look etc.
Thankyou x

Hi, not heard of these but try the dptc (dartmmor pony training centre) they post on here, I'm sure they would be able to point you in the right direction.

Hiya
It depends on what you have to be honest! I believe we have had some Godsworthy ones in the past but can't remember which ones!! I can probably find a bit of info out for you if you wish? A lot of breeders have all sorts of types on the moors so it can be very variable, and will also depend where on the moor they were kept, for example those who are in a more touristy area will tend to be quite bold due to all of the people they meet whereas those in the quieter parts will be more nervous.
e-mail me at dartmoorponytrainingcentre@yahoo.co.uk if you would like me to try and find out further details - or if you let me know what exactly you're looking at we might be able to help :-)

Hes beautiful! He has the same adorable head as ours, very irresistable! I wonder if it is just their temperament to be cheeky, ours has come off dartmoor to a moor in ilkey for a year then to us untouched and hes doing well, quite curious and cheeky, he came straight to me the day after getting me as I spent a couple of hours sat in his stable.
Which part of the basic training do you find is usually the most difficult or lengthy with the hill ponies? Just so we know what to expect with little Mischief lol.

Oh he is so gorgeous, just what i would like, I really love the little skewbald with the wall eye in the background, I have a soft spot for those! Wonder wher he ended up:( Snoopy is a very luck boy with a bright future, well done you, I think it's ok letting your heart rule your head sometimes.
We met some of those very bold babies up near Bellever at Postbridge, little shetland types. My husband had our little dog wrapped around his legs while two little foals chased them about. I would have helped but I was laughing to hard at him running away from Knee high ponies! LOL

LOL your poor hubby!! - I have kept away from the ponies this year, last year I fell in love with one at our open day and couldn't bare to see her go to market so got her, she too is out in a loving loan home now, they are separate to the rescues we take on, we don't buy ponies at sales or privately! First market is tomorrow and I have to be strong!!
If they have been kept on a touristy area they do tend to be cheeky as they are used to getting fed, more often than not they would be happy to load themselves in to the boot of your car!
Each pony is different some take longer to accept a simple touch but once you have that everything else is easy, others are very bold until you do something on your terms which they don't want to do and they suddenly turn in to tantrum pony!
What's interesting is ensuring with the bolder ones that they are listening to you and doing anything you ask through your asking, not because they want to and were doing it any way. You get ponies who seem to have learnt pressure and release but when something happens or they want to go else where it is evident they haven't learnt that concept but simply just been willingly following you!
With the bolder ones the most difficult thing which needs real consistency is teaching them about personal space!
Really look forward to hearing how you get on with yours! Luckily with Snoopy although cheeky he soon caught on to everything very quickly and was eager and not at all tantrumy always wanting to please!
